Pregnant ladies - what are your vaccine thoughts now?

I’m 11 weeks and very undecided. I ask every health person I see and most are against it. The side effects and lack of testing are their reasons to not have it.

I don’t know how I'll cope later in pregnancy though. I have secondary aged children and will be worrying about catching it. I know later on it can be very serious for pregnant women.

If I do have it, I will put it off until later in my second trimester I think. I just don’t know what you do.

I’m 16 weeks and thinking that I’ll have it when I get the opportunity. Like you though, every HCP I’ve asked has advised against it (none since the latest info from the states though). Ive already had Covid but for me I feel that the risks of getting covid late in my pregnancy outweigh the tiny risks associated with vaccination.

Im 18 weeks, and would be first in the queue if they start allowing non CEV pregnant woment the vaccine.

I havent had covid (as far as I know) and for me it poses a very and known real risk to me and baby that outweighs any potential risk/side effect of the jab.

I can totally understand the wanting to wait till end of second trimester/beginning of third as those first few months were filled with worry anyway about how the pregnancy is progressing.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that by the time they are vaccinating my age group I will be able to convince a GP to let me have it!

I have had covid at 18 weeks pregnant and (fortunately) was not very unwell with it. Felt slightly under the weather for a few days but that was it. Luckily no lasting effects for me.
Therefore I’ve decided not to have the vaccine for now as I’m nearly at the end of my pregnancy. I will have the vaccine straight after I’ve had baby.
I am fit and healthy and late 20s though.
I think if I hadn’t had covid or was earlier on in pregnancy and still had the next 9 months ahead of me or i was an older mum or with any underlying conditions I would accept the vaccine whilst pregnant since the data from America has come out. Especially if I had older children who may bring Covid home from school etc.
It is a tricky rescission I think and a personal one depending on your job/health/other children etc etc

I had the vaccine last week (32 weeks pregnant). The hospital had spare Pfizer doses and invited pregnant women to come take it. For me it was a no-brainer, especially being in the third trimester, and where the data from the women vaccinated in the States strongly suggests it’s safe with no susceptibility to adverse effects.

No side effects other than a sore arm.

There will be more data coming soon on women who were vaccinated in the first and second trimester and how their pregnancies and births panned out.

I'd personally avoid it for first trimester too as I believea fever in those early weeks can cause issues. I also had hyperemesis, so definitely wouldn't have been keen to feel even worse that I already did! But yes, second trimester of be tempted if cases were creeping up

tigerbread20 · 27/04/2021 09:48

I'm 20 weeks and have congenital heart disease and work in a hospital as a patient facing role, so my risk is quite high but I'm still not having it. As soon as baby is born I will but there just isn't enough data to put my mind at rest, or any longer term studies

SlovenlyUnwedMother · 27/04/2021 12:13

I'm 27 weeks and would have it today if they let me. For me the risk of getting covid in the third trimester far outweighs the tiny chance of vaccine side effects. I'm very nervous about the fact that everyone expects cases to rise as things open up again and it being fine because the vulnerable are vaccinated. I don't have the option to fully shield because of DP's job.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 27/04/2021 12:29

I'm 30 weeks this week and had a call to offer me the vaccine last week. I declined.

Have felt really torn, I'm overweight and I know if I got Covid I'd likely be more affected but I just don't feel there is enough evidence yet of any long term affect on baby once born.

I'll happily have it once baby is here and yet I believe by that point I won't be allowed it as won't be in the pregnant bracket and back to age bracket (34) so not yet due?! Which is just daft

ElderMillennial · 27/04/2021 12:33

I'm not sure but I asked consultant this week and she said it's a safe vaccine if you have Oxford or Pfeizer (nor AZ) and that it is quite possible baby could be harmed if you get covid. There is more evidence of that bow where they are actually testing placenta etc. She said it's very important pregnant women avoid covid whether by staying away from people or getting the vaccine but obviously.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 27/04/2021 12:38

There is a good resource on Instagram called ‘eppidumyology’ that talks a lot about the different vaccines and pregnancy. Would be worth looking at for more information. My friend in the states has had it. No side effects. I’d find the stillbirth news more worrying personally. I’m doing IVF and hoping to get it before doing a transfer but I I can’t I would get it during pregnancy. In Ireland they recommend it between 14-33 weeks and recommend Pfizer as it has the shortest gap between doses.

If you don’t get the vaccine just take care to shield.

bewitchingnight · 27/04/2021 12:43

I'll have it as soon as I'm offered it. Am 21 weeks so doubt I'll get two doses before the baby is here. For me the risks of being ill in the 3rd trimester outweigh anything else, especially if cases start going up again when people are out and about more.

romdowa · 27/04/2021 12:49

I was told by my obstetrician today that it wouldnt be suitable for me. But I have an immune system disorder

mummabubs · 27/04/2021 13:15

I'm a health professional and had both doses when I was in the second trimester (Pfizer vaccine). As long as I was past 12 weeks I'd definitely have it personally, but ultimately it's your choice to make. The maternity service I'm under is actively supporting pregnant women to pursue the vaccine if they want it.
