Has anyone’s toddler had covid?

My focus has suddenly shifted to worrying about my toddler getting Covid. He’s 14 months.

I know the risk is low to kids, but I’ve just read on the John Hopkins website that children under 2 are potentially at higher risk of severe Covid and especially so under 1.

Has anyone’s toddler under 2 had Covid mildly?

Looking for reassurance more than anything.

My 3 year old had it. Am annoying cough which lasted for a month. No other symptoms and is now absolutely fine 6 months later.

No experience, I'm afraid, OP, because my dc is a teenager, but just wanted to reassure you that the risks are incredibly low. Take all of the usual precautions, of course, but try not to worry. Your dc will be fine.

It sounds like you might have a problem with anxiety. Have you considered talking to your gp about it?Flowers

My eldest had it at 18 months old last year. He woke up with a croup like cough at night (cue panic from me...!) but by the next morning he was fine and had just a mild cough for a week.

My 3yr old had it. Spiking temps and really not feeling well for 48hrs and then she bounced back within 2 days, had an annoying cough for a week or so.

12 month old also had it, he had a runny nose and an annoying cough for about 4 days, then was absolutely fine.

My Ds had it when he was just under a year. He had symptoms very similar to a cold with a high fever and a cough but didn't suffer anything worse. He was fully recovered within a couple of weeks.

ShakespearesSisters · 26/04/2021 21:31

My friends son had it age 21 months. A little cough but fine, husband caught it off him, really ill, still fatigued 6 weeks later. My friend caught it off him too but was 7 weeks post 1st vaccination and was tired for a few days but otherwise fine.

FluffMagnet · 26/04/2021 21:34

Mine had it just around her 2nd birthday. She was a bit more tired than usual although it also coincided with a developmental leap so we can't be sure it was one or the other. The only reason we knew (and tested) was because it ran rampant through nursery and most of her room caught it. We tested just to check, and were surprised to find a positive result. No symptoms to hint she had caught it.

My 2 year old had it . He had high temp one evening and a cough it was mild . He was fine . In fact he has a cough and cold at the moment ( not covid have been tested ) and this is worse than covid in our experience as he is waking at night coughing where as when he had covid it was very mild and it didn't affect his sleep at all.

ChelseaCat · 26/04/2021 21:36

My 12mo had it. He was unsettled and coughing for about two weeks. A bit more clingy than normal but he was fine in himself generally. Try not to worry

Both Dh and I had it last November when DD was under 2. I can't imagine she evaded it as we bedshare and no way of isolating from her. She didn't get any symptoms though so never had a test to confirm either way.

KeepYellowBoxClear · 26/04/2021 21:38

Yes - 3.5 year old and 14 month old had it earlier this year. Totally mild, only symptoms were a cough, grumpy and off their food for a few days.

DH and I bought caught it, but equally mild symptoms - loss of smell/taste, cough but no long lasting effects.

HolmeH · 26/04/2021 21:40

My then 9 month old & 3 year old have both had it. 9 month old had what I’d describe as a heavy cold, cough & brief fever. Fairly miserable for a couple days, then bounced right back. Cough lingered while she was still really snotty. My 3 year old was irritable for a couple days & that’s it. I only tested her because I’d tested positive & so had her baby sister. I was curious!

A few friends kids have had it as well, none of them were more poorly than a heavy cold.

Thanks all. Very reassuring!

(And glad your little ones were fine, obviously!)

My sisters 18m old had it (positive test) and she had a runny nose once. Genuinely a runny nose for 1hr and no other symptoms at all.

thelightishere · 26/04/2021 22:46

Mine had it shortly after turning 2. Was largely unaffected 🙏🏼 little bit of a temp and one day with a funny voice! Same for a friend's.

thelightishere · 26/04/2021 22:48

Oh and a friend's 2.5 month old had it but was completely symptomless.

ViceVersa · 26/04/2021 22:52

Mine had it shortly after turning 2. Slightly raised temp for a day or 2, slight cough for about 4 days but really no worse than a mild cold. In fact I’ve been certain she’s had covid numerous times as she’s had bad coughs/high temps and it’s always been negative. The time she actually got it was so mild I wouldn’t have actually had her tested had I not had a positive test myself.

Nora1978 · 26/04/2021 22:54

Many young children have had it but the government kept insisting that they didn’t so that they could justify nurseries and preschools staying open to all. The cases I am aware of were all very mild.

OliveTree75 · 27/04/2021 05:11

I had it last month along with my DP. Our 11 month daughter didn't catch it or had no symptoms. She is a very clingy baby as well and we bed share so can't imagine she avoided it
