My son just text me from school to say he has received an invitation to book his vaccine, have told him not to click on anything and I will look when he is home, he said some of the 6th formers have also received it. Anyone heard anything?

Both my 17 and 18 year olds were vaccinated on Saturday at a specific clinic for the 16-18 year age group

Both are CV and had the Pfizer jab, perhaps your area has had stock in and decided to target at risk young people in this age category

Iamdobby63 · 26/04/2021 13:12

Thanks. I should have included that he isn’t CV and I can’t think of any reason why.

Is anyone in your family vulnerable. My friend's 17 year old was offered the vaccine for this reason.

minniemomo · 26/04/2021 15:24

Dd had it earlier due to cv but never heard of any one else, my 40 something siblings haven't been called yet! There is a scam by phone I heard

Frazzled2207 · 26/04/2021 15:27

Would his mobile be registered with the gp? Surely any such invitation would go to a parent not him? I’d be extremely suspicious

Iamdobby63 · 26/04/2021 15:53

His older sister got a shielding letter when they included gestational diabetes.

I am suspicious, I don’t think his number is registered with GP, but he uses his phone to register his covid tests. By holding the link (not opening it) it appears to show the NHS page, which has the lock.

I am very suspicious, it either has to be a mistake or a scam.

@Iamdobby63 those who live with CEV (shielding) people are being invited, my DC (18) are both booked to receive theirs on Saturday as i am CEV

Maybe that’s the reason then. Although she has now received notification that she no longer needs to shield (I think as numbers came down and she had her first vaccine).

I’ll see how he feels when he gets home, I won’t be booking anything until his exams are over anyway. Does seem not fair that he should be before other people in the work place.

@Confuzzlediddled it's only those living with an immunosuppressed person that are being invited. It's not all shielding CEV households.

I have no idea why then.....

I’ve looked at the message and it is genuine, I went on to see if we could book but couldn’t. When I get time I will phone and see if it’s a mistake or if they want to book it. As I said earlier, even if he were eligible I would delay a few weeks as he is currently doing his GCSE tests/exams.

@Iamdobby63 My DC had theirs last week as I am immunosuppressed. One was absolutely fine and the other had a sore arm for 24 hours. The advice is usually if you are called then have it done. It's often hard to find out why they invite certain people.

Thank you. I will call them as can’t book online anyway as is not accepting him, if it’s available to him he will have it. My middle daughter (21) just messaged to say her Pfizer 2nd dose has been postponed until the 4th, she has asthma and a small septal defect but wasn’t told to shield, her GP put her forward which was a relief. My son says even if he’s offered the AZ vaccine he would choose to have it as the risks are so low.

My gp surgery made the appointments for our dc as they had to be booked into a specific clinic for 16-18 year olds to ensure the Pfizer vaccine was available

Torvean · 27/04/2021 23:31

Seriously. I would wait if its your son . There's a vaccine going to be available hopefully in May. Its efficacy is higher than any if the available vaccines.
If he gets it sooner I think Pfizer and Moderna are better options.
