I've had my 1st Pfizer shot, and saw on twatter a graphic showing WHOIS date for vaccinepassport.com, vaccinepassport.info, vaccinepassport.org and .net.

All of them show that the names were registered anonymously on 16th July 2016, and expire on 16th July 2021. All were updated on the same day in 2020.

Feeling very duped and cross about this, like someone was just waiting to capitalise on the next outbreak or worse create a panic where these passports would be needed.

I think it would be in the public interest to find out the organisation that are behind these names to get an explanation.

Probably to do with dogs and rabies vaccination.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2021 19:11

Could be for anything.

Lots of countries require various vaccinations for travel. Its not a new concept.

Do you think someone registered a domain name 5 years ago then created a virus to capitalise on it?

GappyValley · 25/04/2021 19:16

I had to get a yellow fever vaccination a decade ago to travel to Africa, and had to keep the certificate with my passport so bought a little leather cover for it that specifically advertised itself as having compartments for vaccine certificates.

This could be for an etsy-style shop selling those for all we know...

JaninaDuszejko · 25/04/2021 19:17

It'll be the US gov. We've known for years there would be a serious pandemic. If it was the UK government it would be a gov.uk site.

eurochick · 25/04/2021 19:19

Someone watched Contagion and thought they might make something of this in future.

MorganSeventh · 25/04/2021 19:26

As they were registered two days before the Brexit vote, I suspect it was someone speculatively registering the domain names to sell on if border restrictions changed. It wouldn't be the US government, they use .gov

StarCat2020 · 25/04/2021 23:41

There are so many pre-created web domain names that it really is nothing to worry about.

Nootkah · 26/04/2021 10:17

There are so many non covid related possibilities here! Pets, people (non covid, such as yellow fever, hepatitis etc, othet travel vaccunations), could be a digital version of the red book, could be anything! Certainly i dont have written down all my vaccinations ever taken. Woukd be handy to have them all in an app!

Tommika · 26/04/2021 11:53

They are registered in Milan
.co.uk was also registered on the same date and appears to be the only one without the registrant country possibly because .co.uk is meant to be country dependant.

@MorganSeventh The Brexit referendum was June 23rd, and they were all registered on July 16th so not directly related, but there will have been speculation at the time of ‘what Brexit will mean’ and someone may have decided then that UK to Europe travel might have more needs including vaccination status (for people and/or animals)

Vaccine ‘passports’ have been around for a long time with the need to demonstrate your status for travel to particular parts of the world

The discovery of these registrations is a non event, but is ammunition for social media conspiracy theorists

What it really means is that someone has been sat on registrations for half a decade hoping that they may cash in by selling them at a later date. This happens all the time with many words and combinations

Looking at web.archive.org/ they don’t appear to have been used at any time, but I have not looked up every variation

Blubellwood · 26/04/2021 20:35

People register domain names all the time. Often they speculate to make money if someone wants to buy it from them.
