Blood clot after AZ vaccine

Lightout · 25/04/2021 05:55

My friend was unique in life, she was 1 in a million when alive in now statistically 5 in a million in death. 💔

Like myself, she was relieved when she was invited to get her vaccine.
She was 50 years old with no underlying issues. Strong, fit and healthy!

10 days after after vaccine......
she had a busy day ahead, and had an annoying headache , took a couple of paracetamol and got on with her day. The following day, she didn’t feel great, but again, a busy day, had work appointments to attend, took a couple of paracetamol and got on with her day.

And that was the end.....
She had a cerebral blood clot which resulted in her death.
Because of the low level of platelets , it has been confirmed that the vaccine did indeed cause this blood clot.

I am not posting this to scare people into not getting vaccine.
I am posting this to ask people to be very, very vigilant and if you have a headache a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks , 4 weeks after getting vaccine, please, please, seek medical advice.

@SheeshazAZ09 you know just one researcher who has this opinion. What's his opinion as do why the government wants to put us all at risk, if he's so sure the vaccines are dangerous ? Genuinely interested.

nonaomi · 25/04/2021 10:51

@SheeshazAZ09 I personally am intrigued by what you're saying and don't think an open discussion should be reported personally. But I think we should remember you're telling us about the opinion of ONE person. It's not fact. He hasn't conducted clinical trials etc. His opinions are not peer reviewed etc.

Which is why I ask again- if he thinks the vaccines are no good. What's his explanation as to why other scientists say that they are good ?

SheeshazAZ09 · 25/04/2021 10:53

@nonaomi The vaccine response consists in the body's cells producing coronavirus spike protein. This is the intention. The idea is that the body will learn to attack the spike protein, and do so in a limited manner for a limited time. The problem may arise though (according to the hypothesis of the researcher) that the body starts attacking not just the spike protein as expressed in some cells, but the cells themselves that have produced the spike protein, in other words, an auto immune effect.

RedcurrantPuff · 25/04/2021 10:55

That’s such a shame OP. So sorry x as you said important to be vigilant, I certainly will be when I get my 2nd dose in a few weeks x

@SheeshazAZ09 that's interesting because all my doctor friends are really excited a out mRNA technology and couldn't wait to get jabbed. They're really excited and think the technology will help us fight a lot of diseases and is a game changer. They also work in a very, very relevant field.

So it really depends who you're talking to. Everyone has an opinion on this.

SheeshazAZ09 · 25/04/2021 11:01

@nonaomi The researcher's worries are partly based on the fact he doesn't respect the trial data of the vaccine manufacturers--he says the trials were badly run and crucially the data are not fully published and until they are and he is satisfied by their quality, he is not giving them the benefit of the doubt.

RedcurrantPuff · 25/04/2021 11:02

@SheeshazAZ09 the OP has posted this thoughtful thread to tell us what happened to her lovely friend and advise people to be careful. Please don’t hijack it with your unsubstantiated nonsense.

Oh and your friend sounds like a terrible doctor if she wouldn’t prescribe patients medicine that they need due to her own prejudices.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 25/04/2021 11:03

20 years? She could be dead by then. What a ridiculous idea.

nonaomi · 25/04/2021 11:05

@SheeshazAZ09 OK... I can't personally comment on the trial data and would have no idea how to.

I would just like to believe that doctors and scientists advising the governments won't approve something which will just end up putting even more pressure on health care systems and therefore costing even more money and deaths etc.

hepatocyte · 25/04/2021 11:06

@SheeshazAZ09

some things that are patently untrue...
-doctors are not covering up adverse events from vaccine trials or from vaccination in the general pop
-this is not what an auto-immune effect is... the body starts attacking not just the spike protein as expressed in some cells, but the cells themselves that have produced the spike protein, in other words, an auto immune effect.

  • the vaccines are not gene therapy, they are not able to alter your genetic material and indeed go nowhere near your genes.
  • I find it unlikely that you both have these incorrect views and know so many people who have had life-threatening reactions to the vaccine
-in addition, "gene therapy researcher" is not a job title, and I find it strange you dripfed this info about your partner's career
hepatocyte · 25/04/2021 11:07

OP, I'm really sorry about what happened to your friend, she sounded like an amazing person Flowers sorry your thread is getting hijacked by anti-vax posters xx

nonaomi · 25/04/2021 11:10

@SheeshazAZ09

I also want to add that my doctor friends have also worked on the trials for an approved covid vaccine .. I forgot to add this. They're so excited about the vaccines and think they'll change the world for the better. As mRNA technology can help fight many diseases.

Asposhasitgets · 25/04/2021 11:14

@SheeshazAZ09 in your now deleted post, you said your researcher friend said that gene therapy trials are stopped for severe events, and that this isn’t the case in the vaccine trials. This is definitely not true - the AZ trials were stopped temporarily in July and September (and possibly other times I missed), and the one on children was also recently stopped. This is normal (and important obviously) in any medical trial.

Asposhasitgets · 25/04/2021 11:15

Sorry, I also meant to say to the OP that I am so sorry for your loss. It must be devastating for her friends and family. Flowers

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 25/04/2021 11:16

I’ve survived a brain haemorrhage- the headache was unbelievable never before in my life experienced a pain like it.

That’s the horrible thing with a clot - it’s unpredictable I didn’t know that day 20 years ago I’d wake up and by the end of the day fighting for my life. I was lucky to come out the other side.

Feel for the family Flowers

I’ve also recently had the AZ - for me the chances of a clot with covid was higher so took the chance to protect myself as best as I can.

walksen · 25/04/2021 11:17

Sorry for your loss OP. These side effects are obviously very rare and the decision to advise their use be continued for anyone 30+, and targeting certain vaccines makes sense but I do think you are doing a good thing in publicising the warning signs.

I do wonder why it took the Europeans publicising the issues they spotted for the UK to realise there was an issue because we are so far ahead in doses given.

I am not surprised people speculate about cover ups etc because as well as the rollout has gone there clearly have been issues in identifying these extremely rare side effects.

lljkk · 25/04/2021 12:11

I'm surprised about what OP said because I thought the headaches linked to the blood clots were far more than an "annoying headache" yet one that paracetamol could deal with. Also that it escalated from start to end in < 2 days. Every other report I've read suggested the key symptom was quite a severe headache that persisted for many days and was debilitating in spite of painkillers. A headache that started 7+ days after the jab does fit with what I thought I knew. I'm reading 4+days below.

The official advice mentions blurred vision and "does not respond to painkillers" .

Sadly blood clots/brain haemorrhages can happen to anybody regardless of age and health issues, with or without vaccines. All we can do is stay alert after a vaccination but also at any other time to spot the danger signs.

Mintjulia · 25/04/2021 14:13

I'll be sure to be vigilant when I have my 2nd dose of AZ in June. Although I didn't have even a bruise with the first dose. It was all fine. Completely painless too..

Lightout · 25/04/2021 14:42

@lljkk

There is no need to be surprised

At no point in my post did I say 2 days......

From headache on day 1, to feeling unwell on day 2
Day 3, 4,5, 6 was spent on a ventilator unresponsive until the time came to switch it off.

I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s utterly heartbreaking. While the chances are small I’m always very aware that every person who is effected is someone’s loved one or friend, it’s so very sad. Thank you for raising awareness.

kiwiPlumapple · 25/04/2021 14:47

@Daisydoor12

This is truly tragic and I’m sorry for your lost.

Similar has happened to my aunt, slightly older at 54. She was a nurse, got up for work on a Friday with what she thought was a start of a cold, head fuzzy. Paracetamol and went to work. Saturday felt worse didn’t go into work-first sick day in 15years, saw out of hours gp who diagnosed sinusitis. Early hours Sunday morning she woke up,collapsed in bathroom, husband called ambulance rushed to hospital and eventually diagnosed with a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Stable for 36hours but deteriorated and sadly died 4days later.
This happened in 2007, so obviously nothing to do with covid or AZ.

My aunt had an extremely rare condition that was undiagnosed, why I’m posting this is just to say: heartbrokenly, these one in however million events, can and do occur. Life can be so cruel and so precious at the same time, make the most of it when we can.

Was it LDS? We have this is my family I have been putting off getting tested
Dowser · 25/04/2021 16:19

The reason I’m the only driver is on account of dh blood clot in the brain
We realise we were really lucky when it only knocked out his peripheral vision

He’s not getting the jab and neither am I
