Anyone who does regular LFT can you help?

I'm a student nurse. I do regular LFT twice weekly, always had instant negatives.

I tested on Sunday night prior to my Monday shift, negative. On Tuesday night I started feeling hayfever symptoms, tested again on Wednesday morning to be sure and it was negative.

Woke up today with cold symptoms: runny nose, headache, stuffy and sore throat, lots of sneezing. Mild occasional cough, more to clear irritable throat. Smells are still there but mild due to my nose being so runny.

I took a LFT, for a while there was a line. However, as time has gone on after 30 mins it was clear.

I've attached the tests. I'm due in clinic at 12, they are aware I tested negative through the week and have hayfever (I do suffer hayfever, usually not this bad though)

Has anyone had this before? I'm 23 weeks pregnant so extra anxious at this point. I do think it's just hayfever

Youbare supposed to read the result after 30 mins. So it’s a negative

DesdemonaDryEyes · 22/04/2021 07:42

Those are all negative.

eeyore228 · 22/04/2021 07:42

It looks negative to me, but they aren't 100% accurate, if you are in any doubt id get an appointment for a PCR.

OpheliasCrayon · 22/04/2021 07:42

I've had this. I assumed it was the dye moving up as the line came at about 5 mins but by about 15 I just had a negative. I did also have symptoms of a very long lasting cold at the time. I did another one straight after as like you I was a bit confused and that never showed a line and was just a negative the whole time .

kimlo · 22/04/2021 07:42

I would take another test and ring work and see what they want you to do. I would think they would want a pcr, you aren't supposed to read them after half an hour.

crispychicken12 · 22/04/2021 07:43

Thanks everyone. I sound worse than I feel, which normally means hayfever for me.

I think the only ethical thing to do is assume the faint line was correct, stay home, and get a PCR. Particularly as you have symptoms, including a bit of a cough. Sorry.

Whatalottachocca · 22/04/2021 07:44

Mine always look like that. It’s negative.

dementedpixie · 22/04/2021 07:45

There are things you can use for hayfever in pregnancy e.g. nasal sprays, eye drops and some antihistamines (loratidine/cetirizine)

OpheliasCrayon · 22/04/2021 07:45

@Motorina

I think the only ethical thing to do is assume the faint line was correct, stay home, and get a PCR. Particularly as you have symptoms, including a bit of a cough. Sorry.
Really no - it very clearly states on the instructions to read at 30 mins. At 30 mins OPs test was negative. There's nothing unethical about assuming it's negative as she's done exactly what the instructions say
ineedaholidaynow · 22/04/2021 07:49

If you have symptoms though you aren’t meant to use LFT

Northernsoullover · 22/04/2021 07:49

Bloody hell. Here we are over a year in and people are still dithering. Its really really unlikely you have covid. Take a PCR test, prove it 100% and get back to work. I've done a lot of covid related work and if I had a quid for every 'I thought it was a cold/sinusitis/hay-fever' I'd be quite well off.

Oldandcold · 22/04/2021 07:50

We are told pcr if symptoms, so I think you should get a pcr anyway. Lateral flows are for detecting asymptomatic positives. If you have symptoms even if you think it's hayfever I would get a pcr to be sure.

CarrieBlue · 22/04/2021 07:51

LFT aren’t to be used if symptomatic.

DoThePropeller · 22/04/2021 07:52

We always see a shadow on ours briefly before the time window, I would read these as negative.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 22/04/2021 07:54

Op did you read them At 30 mins or a while after. The test can change after if you leave it too long. Why not do another one to double check?

Foolintherain · 22/04/2021 07:54

If it was negative after 30 minutes I would take that reading. It was probably just the dye moving up.

crispychicken12 · 22/04/2021 07:55

@Northernsoullover I'm allowed to ask a question, you didn't have to answer. If the thread annoyed you, why bother clicking on it?

I'm pregnant and working with vulnerable people in the community. I attend a very unsupportive university at its 07:30 I can't contact my manager yet.

Foolintherain · 22/04/2021 07:57

A positive test would still have the line at 30 minutes. Yours didn't so it's negative.

crispychicken12 · 22/04/2021 07:57

Thanks for the replies, I'll do another one just to be 100% sure but I'm confident these are negative and I have horrible hayfever! Hoping to get to the pharmacy for some pregnancy safe hayfever relief

OP posts:
priccey · 22/04/2021 07:58

It's probably pregnancy making your hay fever worse but I'd take a pcr test as you do technically have symptoms of covid.

namesnamesnamesnames · 22/04/2021 08:00

Disregard anything it shows after 30 minutes.

dementedpixie · 22/04/2021 08:00

But you need to wait 30 minutes to get the result

ineedaholidaynow · 22/04/2021 08:02

But you shouldn’t be using LFT if you have possible symptoms

crispychicken12 · 22/04/2021 08:02

I waited 30 mins, was a clear negative by then. I'm taking that as I'm negative
