Do you only self isolate if contacted by Test and Trace?

I had contact with someone outdoors, socially distanced, and they’ve tested positive (asymptomatic). I haven’t been contacted by Test and Trace. Do I have to isolate?

If it's positive on a PCR test then yes I would isolate unless you're quite sure you were at quite a distance for the entire time. I don't think you have to but you'd feel pretty shit If it went tits up and your kids class got canned.

It’s the contact from test and trace that triggers the legal duty to isolate. Unless you have symptoms

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/04/2021 22:37

When did you see them? Was it in the 48 hours before their symptoms started?

How long were you with them for?

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/04/2021 22:38

Sorry just realised you said asymptomatic.

Katie517 · 18/04/2021 23:06

I don’t think track and trace count contacts outdoors, especially if you were distanced.

rainbowthoughts · 18/04/2021 23:11

It's very unlikely you will be contacted. We were told it was 15 minutes contact within a metre when a work colleague tested positive. None of the other staff members were contacted.

landofgiants · 18/04/2021 23:16

No legal requirement to self isolate unless contacted by track and trace. However, advice suggests that you should avoid contact with others who may be clinically vulnerable. I had this recently with a close contact at work and I didn't self isolate as I didn't find out for nearly a week (!) but once I found out I stayed home apart from walking the dog for the rest of the 10 days.

If contact was outdoors and you are confident about the social distancing, then it should be low risk.

landofgiants · 18/04/2021 23:21

It's 15 minutes contact within a 2 metre range. For close contact within a metre and indoors, I think a minute or two would trigger it. Outdoors lower risk.

@Katie517

I don’t think track and trace count contacts outdoors, especially if you were distanced.
Surely they do otherwise why are pubs / cafes having to take peoples details for sitting outside? I presumed it's for T & T purposes.

How long, how far apart, what masks were you both wearing, if any? Anything under 15 minutes, more than 2m and appropriately masked would mean you don't have to isolate. Unless your country's rules state otherwise.

Racoonworld · 19/04/2021 09:09

When you say socially distanced, how far apart were you and for how long?

Rainbowsandstorms · 19/04/2021 16:17

If you were within two meters for 15 minutes or less than a meter for 1 minute you meet the isolation criteria set by track and trace and you’re therefore at risk and at risk of passing it on and should isolate.

Yellowmellow2 · 19/04/2021 19:44

Thanks everyone. We were over 2metres I’d say, but no mask and outdoors. Tricky!
