Anyone just have no interest in socialising in places with the restrictions in place?

I'm not saying there shouldn't be restrictions at all, just that I don't see the fun in any of it. Being forced to sit outdoors in several layers of clothes to keep warm, so you can have a glass of wine, a pint or some food. Having to put a mask on to go to the fucking toilet. Sit here, don't sit there, one way systems, yellow tape everywhere, remain seated or put your hand up to go to the toilet, wear a mask on any public transport, the hassle of shopping.

I can understand people have been out to go to the pub or shop this week and had a great time and see it as a step back to normal. I just find it too demoralising to be doing these things for fun. i can only be bothered when it's essential, like a weekly shop.

We’re still locked down pointlessly in Scotland so unable to attempt these activities that English and Welsh posters can do. Local libraries are allowed to open on 26 April but no dates available as to when they are actually going to open. It’s so disheartening, yes we can travel across Scotland but very little open and you have to check out which public toilets are open before your day trip.

@Malteser71

I’m almost 50, I’m sick of being told off for inadvertently making a mistake.

I’ve had both vaccines, I work from home. I am a perfectly law abiding healthy person, I won’t go anywhere that some fucking kid is going to bark at me for doing something wrong as though I’ve got a virus that I haven’t got.

Plenty of places I’ll never return to as a result, too.

"Some fucking kid" is probably finding doing their job pretty hard at the moment.
Malteser71 · 19/04/2021 21:53

Is anyone finding their job easy right now?

I work in the NHS, it’s hasn’t exactly been a picnic.

Being shouted at by some kid who suddenly finds themselves in a position of ‘authority’ over me?

Nah.

Doubt they'll miss you
Eyevorbig0ne · 19/04/2021 23:07

Yes OP.
I resent being put outside at the pub like a dog.
I resent paying eat in prices for sparce menu to eat outside.
I'm not interested in being policed regarding one way systems (cos covid knows, right? 🙄) or asking permission to use the indoor toilet. Why not go the whole hog and put piss buckets under each outdoor table? 🙄
Queuing to access shops.... Only to find they're rammed inside anyway.
Can't try shoes on... The size 6s I bought are bloody boats and have to be returned.
Bloody masks... If I can smell a candle then how are they stopping covid spreading?
But the vaccines will save us all..... Riiiiggghhhtt.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2021 23:34

Perhaps some of the people who are so resentful of the current safety measures and so hostile to those having to implement them should stay at home then. I doubt if any of these employees are finding the measures easy to enforce, particularly if they're younger and attracting even more hostility.

And of course people are "barking" and "shouting" at you. Yeah, right. Hmm

Malteser71 · 22/04/2021 00:35

Well ssd

The last place I was treated really badly (for entering a queue the wrong way, when there was no actual queue because it was 9.30am and I was the only customer) was Debenhams.

The shop assistant made me leave the till a d walk across the shop floor to join the ‘queue’ the right way. Clearly found this hilarious, actually sniggered to her friend.

Out of a job now, so no, not missing me.

I do. My bank account is doing nicely out of it. Overzealous, miserable businesses, not so much. The past year has taught us that we can endure hunkering down without these frivolities. I can't say that I'm thrilled about it, but I may as well be cheesed off in the comfort of my home and better off for it than paying to be pissed off. Or find more realistic businesses that can balance their obligation to the minimum guidelines required with decent customer service.
dementedma · 22/04/2021 13:10

Let you know next week when Scotland is finally allowed out to play...

Temp023 · 22/04/2021 13:24

Well, if we don’t support these places at the moment, they probably won’t still be there when things do get less restricted.

PferdeMerde · 22/04/2021 13:29

I just found out that 1 library in the whole city is reopening again next week. I’m going to go even though it’s a fucking hassle. The libraries were shut from March-October and then they’ve been shut again since December.
I won’t be going to restaurants because I’m just not bothered. Although I went to one on Christmas Eve and nobody shouted at me for not wearing a mask when I went to the toilet.

whoshouldItalkto · 22/04/2021 13:45

I feel like I'm in a parallel universe. I don't go out that much but when I do it's for a drink in sunny (but chilly) weather which if fine if wrapped up, friendly staff, a few, clearly communicated restrictions and all pretty pleasant. Everyone I know seems to be the same, and judging from the numbers in local pubs and restaurants we're not alone. Haven't braved Prmark but to be honest that's always a bit of a nightmare.

rookiemere · 22/04/2021 13:58

I'm like you @whoshouldItalkto . Not experienced it this time as in Scotland and still in lockdown, but when we were able to eat in restaurants and go to shops and gyms, the experience was generally pretty good.

Sure there were a few annoyances like remembering to put a mask on when you stand up, but only one restaurant where they seemed to be taking it ridiculously seriously so there was a convoluted laid out path to the toilets, my friend got told what seat to sit at and we had to collect and put back our own plates on the tray, but we simply didn't go back there.

People make their own choices, but I think if folks are waiting for the experience to be exactly like it was pre March 20, they could be waiting a long time and I'm certainly not denying myself the opportunity to go out.

whoshouldItalkto · 22/04/2021 14:23

I agree @rookiemere - obviously it's entirely up to people how they spend their time and money, but so many businesses have put a huge amount of thought and imagination into how to make their services a pleasurable experience within the restrictions imposed it seems a bit of a shame to tar everyone with the same negative brush.

ConcernedAuntie · 22/04/2021 19:42

Out for lunch with DH today for the first time since before Christmas. Local pub with sunny courtyard seating. Met at the gate and escorted to table where we took off our masks. All tables well spaced but it was wonderful to hear chatter all around us. Fabulous meal. Felt like the pandemic was miles away. Thoroughly enjoyed it - felt like a lovely bit of normal. Will definitely go back.

Sunshine1235 · 22/04/2021 19:48

I agree, I have young children I want to my o to the library, events, museums etc but I want those to be enjoyable events so while mask restrictions are in place we won’t be going. I don’t mind wearing a mask for a quick trip into a shop but for a nice day out with my children I draw the line

HelloMissus · 22/04/2021 20:14

I was out last night on the South Bank.
Absolutely packed.
People drinking, laughing, eating, mooching.
Yeah it got a bit chilly but man it was great. Like a bloody festival atmosphere.

Iquitit · 22/04/2021 20:27

So fucking glad I left hospitality with some of the superior arsehole attitudes on this thread.
I know a lot of others that have as well, and not because they lost their jobs but because arseholes insist on blaming them for covid restrictions that have been imposed on the business they work for and them, creating more work, and some people are so pathetic they think the problem is someone they deem beneath them might be perceived to have a bit of 'power' because they don't want to have their place of work shut down due to other people's actions.
If it weren't for the people who will lose jobs and livelihoods I'd hope that these idiots have no where left to go when this is all over, they don't fucking deserve it.

RoseWineTime · 22/04/2021 20:36

I’m incredibly happy to be able to go out to eat and see friends in the pub garden! Things feel a lot more normal thankfully. More people are back in my work and I’m loving it. Roll on the vaccination programme Smile

shinynewapple21 · 22/04/2021 22:17

Well I'm off out for a meal tomorrow lunchtime. There appears to be a marquee with outdoor heaters for people eating a meal . Just googled the online menu. I'm so excited !

BogRollBOGOF You and others like you have spent so much time blathering on about the economy over the last 18 months, I'd have thought you'd be absolutely jumping at the opportunity to support struggling businesses reopening in the the only way they can - with restrictions. But no. The bellyaching! No-one is doing it to piss you off personally.

Ariannah · 23/04/2021 02:52

YANBU, I can’t be arsed either. It’s not fun with restrictions in place, I’d rather not bother.

Itsjustricemichael · 23/04/2021 03:54

I'm trying to do as much going out to attractions as possible while restrictions are in place. We dont mind wesring mssks and so nice not to be crammed next to people.
