Swimming lessons

Does anyone have a child who has missed out on over a year of swimming? My child was 4 when the first lockdown happened and happily participating in swimming lessons but swim instructors are now not allowed in the pool with beginners so he is unable to attend any lessons (he'll be 6 soon)! I'd be interested to know when swim instructors will be allowed back in the pool? I can't take him to any parent and child lessons due to his younger sibling.

It has annoyed me that pools have remained shut for so long and we've had people swimming in rivers with the risk of weils disease or strong undercurrents and children are missing out on a pretty important life skill.

Just to say... we did a week of one-to one intense swimming lessons (30 mins per day) a few summers ago. This was just before a holiday with a pool and nearby beach and I wasn't sure that my kids were ready for that.

This was really effective, they 'got it' in a way that I think is hard to do with just a weekly lesson. Mine were 5/7 at the time and were both confident swimmers after a week. Cost about the same as a term of regular lessons and was offered in a local pool. Best money we spent on anything swimming related and may be an option for you in a few months!

This is interesting I have sometimes wondered if mine would do better one to one or something Cos she's a slow learner with swimming But I just don't know whether to risk the money. I mean if it's no improvement on normal lessons it'll have been wasted Mind you I don't think our pool even does one to one

My 7 year old very nervous DS had his first swimming lesson since October today. His instructors were in the pool and as hands on as by, though wearing face visors.

@purpleme12 I do think one to one lessons are worth it if you have the option, particularly in the lower stages they get a lot more time actually swimming rather than waiting at the side, and the teacher can focus on the things they struggle with. Unfortunately our pool aren’t currently running them regularly at the moment
