2nd dose people - how long was gap between first and second jab?

WombatChocolate · 15/04/2021 15:50

Realise those who book via national booking system tend to book 2nd at same time, between 11 and 12 weeks.

Those invited by GP led services tend to get called back and given the appointment not long before the 2nd jab. Just wondered how long your gap between jabs ended up being please? And did you hear much before the actual 2nd appointment?

I’m asking because I’m hearing 2nd jabs are often being brought forward but just wondered how common that is and also if it varies according to which jab you received.

Thanks.

Mum had her first on 12 Feb, she just got the call to book the second one which is on 30 April so 11 weeks.

Thatwentbadly · 15/04/2021 20:50

I booked mine through our local Gp hub. Your second appointment is exactly 11 weeks later to minute in their system.

ajandjjmum · 15/04/2021 20:55

11 1/2 weeks between my first and second Pfizer jab - at GP's surgery. Did phone to chase it up though.

Arrierttyclock · 15/04/2021 21:00

5th jan first and 15th March second

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/04/2021 00:20

Mine, booked centrally through NHS system, was due to be exactly 11 weeks from the first vaccination.
I had an invitation to book via the GP this morning, so scheduled for Saturday, which will be nine weeks. Assuming that goes smoothly, I'll then cancel the one scheduled for the end of the month. (I have a niggling worry that I'll turn up and they don;t have the same brand I had for the first vaccine)

I know quite a few people who've had invitations moved forwards, generally one week - mostly London & Herts.

FontyMcFontface · 16/04/2021 00:28

4-6 weeks for Pfizer here (Wales) - think AstraZeneca is a longer wait.

WombatChocolate · 16/04/2021 09:18

Sounds like quite a few are happening before 12 weeks....apart from the cock-ups. I wonder if they will continue to pull forward or if that was just when there wasn’t much supply for 1st diesel and they did t want to expand the rollout, so use them up on 2nd doses people sooner.

I think the whole ‘don’t contact the GP’ thing is a very tricky. On one hand I fully understand they have lots of work to do and can’t do it if answering the phone or following up in things people have asked take all their time. On the other hand, people who never got an invitation for a first jab, or who don’t hear and receive an appointment before their 2nd jab 12 weeks get terrified to call. The local websites and facebook sites I’ve seen, to be fair, do say to call if you haven’t heard and you’re an eligible low group, or if you’ve reached 11 weeks and not heard. However, I think it’s the elderly getting their 2nd jabs at moment and they often don’t look on the websites and just feel they mustn’t be a nuisance and so sometimes people will go beyond 12 weeks.

I 5ink the comms are still a bit confusing. Messaging is out out by GP led services and by the national booking site. Some says wait for an invitation before you book, others say book as soon as you’re eligible and dont wait for an invitation. People generally have been keen not to queue jump and lots of people haven’t booked who could, because they thought (and still do) that they need a letter or personal invitation to book.

I got the pfizer at work (hospital) 8 weeks apart. My mum got her pfizer 5 weeks apart from her GP and my dad got his pfizer from a different GP surgery 8 weeks apart. We are north of scotland.

muddledmidget · 16/04/2021 09:38

Had my first at a GP hub on 26/1 (AZ) and tried to book with them for my second last week as my 12 weeks is up on 20/4. They told me I wasn't due as I'd not been vaccinated until 12/2? I then went onto the national booking site who told me I was due anytime after 13/4 so I've got it this morning at a vaccination hub about 30 miles from home which isn't great, but I do have 3 days off after this one in case I feel rough.

Was quite happy with the vaccine rollout, but it does feel like second doses can be a bit hit and miss in some areas, with some dodgy record keeping and people being missed

My parents got their second Pfizer yesterday at 13 weeks. GP was almost impossible to get hold of before that.

I've got my second AZ booked for 11 weeks.

PrincessNutNuts · 16/04/2021 13:09

My parents got their text today and are having it on Sunday. The day before the 12 weeks is up.

I understand all the reasons why they've cut it so fine - but I wish they wouldn't.

fitflopqueen · 16/04/2021 13:13

9-10 weeks Pfizer, that was me, both parents and in laws, had 2nd 2 weeks ago.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 16/04/2021 13:18

11 weeks but I know a few who have had a much smaller gap. Depends upon the reason and where vaccinating.

beguilingeyes · 16/04/2021 16:02

My second appointment was booked automatically when I booked the first one. AZ and 77 days. I've had both now.

ifonly4 · 16/04/2021 16:08

I was entitled to my vaccine through work so booked under a different system to the NHS one/gp referral. Once I'd had my vaccine, I had the option of booking over a three day window (no other option) - had mine 70 days later.

Bells3032 · 16/04/2021 16:17

My DH got ours a day apart but at different places but both Pfizer. Was 9 weeks ago. he has his second booked for tomorrow. I'm still waiting to hear.

Tealightsandd · 16/04/2021 16:27

Family and friends in London. One had Pfizer at 3 weeks gap just before UK changed it. Others had second Pfizer between 11 and 13 weeks. The 13 weeks person was originally going to be 11 weeks but had her appointment cancelled the night before. I know a couple of AZ in different part of London had between 9 and 11 week wait.

My AZ booked on the national system at just over 11 weeks. Happy with that but I'd equally welcome being brought forward.

Boph · 16/04/2021 16:57

I would be very reluctant to have my second AZ jab before the 12 weeks.
They have tested various intervals with 12 weeks being the maximum and the immunity was higher with the 12 week gap.

Either way nothing dramatic will happen at 12 weeks. Your immunity won't disappear if it goes to 13 or 14, it may even be better.

Tealightsandd · 16/04/2021 17:02

That's a good point @boph
I was content waiting 11+ weeks. I got slightly nervous last week after reading about possible supply issues, but fingers crossed it's going to be fine!

PieonaBarm · 16/04/2021 17:08

As long as there is minimum 3 weeks between first and second it makes no difference, I was 10 weeks, but by pure chance as had Pfizer

MRex · 16/04/2021 17:14

DP, DPIL and DA all heard at 10 weeks and were vaccinated by the end of that week, PIL were exactly 11 weeks and the others 2 days earlier.

Spodge · 16/04/2021 17:47

My husband had AZ via the GP on 12 Feb. He was texted yesterday to book the 2nd, and has his second jab on the 27th. So 10 1/2 weeks between jabs.

mooshie06 · 16/04/2021 19:48

Cheshire, AZ one and 7 weeks interval here - was surprised to be called up that soon but asking around a lot are around the 9 week mark.

Fairystory · 16/04/2021 19:49

I had Pfizer 9 weeks ago with the GP hub and haven't heard anything yet about my second jab.

WombatChocolate · 16/04/2021 20:27

Hmmm, seems lots are being done a bit early. I wonder if that will continue or is just a feature of the last couple of weeks and couple of weeks to come.

So sorry to hear of those who didn’t get it until late or who have been stressed waiting to be called right up to the line. The problem is, that when we hear of people not getting called until after the date or even then needing to chase it up, as people approach 11 weeks and haven’t been called, they are bound to feel worried.

I plan to call dead on 11 weeks if I haven’t heard. The CCG website givers permission to call if you get beyond that....it’s one of the few acceptable reasons to ring, amongst the many DO NOT RING messages. I do get why they can’t have people ringing about every little thing though.
