Due date and 3 year old in isolation

It's my due date tomorrow and we've received an email off my LGs pre-school (she's 3) to say that a member of staff has tested positive for covid and she has been in close contact with this person and therefore needs to isolate. She was last in preschool on Thursday, we received the email on Saturday and she has to isolate until Monday 19th.

Not great timing with my due date being tomorrow. I have got rapid result tests online for us to take every couple of days which so far have come back negative but she has had a bit of a snotty nose and tonight was complaining of a tummy ache although I don't know if she was just playing on it a little because she was still full of beans otherwise. But I have never heard her complain of tummy ache before.

My question is for those who have children who have been asked to isolate due to being in contact at nursery or school with someone who has tested positive did they end up catching it? And if so when did the symptoms from the last time they were in contact with the positive person begin? I hope some people can help I'm feeling like an anxious wreck atm which I know is being hugely heightened by impending labour any day now!

We have had to isolate 4 times with different children and none of them have developed any symptoms or tested positive

RaggieDolls · 14/04/2021 20:18

We've had to isolate twice within a primary bubble of 64. Not one child or staff member apart from the original positive child got any symptoms.

I know anecdote isn't evidence and this is easy to say but you have to try not to worry too much. Were you early or late with DD? I got later with mine...

Thank you both for your replies, makes me feel a lot better. I was actually 2 weeks late with my LG so likely to be late again which as much as I want this baby out is probably a good thing! I'm just anxious we will all get covid and I will have to give birth with covid but I know I am jumping to the worst which I shouldn't do. That's why I thought I'd make a post and see how likely it is that we will all come down with it. I just can't believe my luck atm 🤦🏼‍♀️ it was also my LGs 3rd bday on Sunday so we were isolating for that as well bless her, not good timing at all!

It's rotten for you. Not what you need at all.

I understand the most common window for the onset of symptoms following exposure is 3-5 days so you are coming out of the most high risk window now.

I really feel for you. I really needed the nursery days to get some rest from looking after a two year old.

Nikki305 · 14/04/2021 22:26

I can't answer your questions but just wanted to say I really feel for you as that's such rubbish timing!! Hope everything works out well for you.

happyface42 · 15/04/2021 08:29

@RaggieDolls that's good to know hopefully we are coming out of the danger zone now then! It will be a week today she was last in contact with the person. Although she's sneezed a few times this morning and I've been on the edge of my seat 👀🤣

Thank you @Nikki305 I must admit I was feeling very sorry for myself over the weekend but hopefully come Monday all will be ok and we will have escaped covid! 🤞🏻

My 7 year old was self isolating because of a case in his class when my baby was born last year! None of us had symptoms.
It was stressful at the time when we found out he needed to isolate but my midwives were so supportive and it all worked out okay!

RaggieDolls · 15/04/2021 20:14

How is your DD tonight OP?

happyface42 · 15/04/2021 21:43

@RaggieDolls

How is your DD tonight OP?
She's still a little bit snotty but absolutely fine otherwise so fingers crossed she'll be ok. Thank you for asking Daffodil

Don’t want to alarm you, but stomach ache is one of most common covid symptoms in children.

covid.joinzoe.com/post/back-to-school

As she may have symptoms, she needs to do a pcr (lab test) rather than a lateral flow test.

The most common time for onset of symptoms is 5-7 days after contact but could be up to 10.
Tallybo · 15/04/2021 21:51

It's not a foregone conclusion by any means, but with a tummy ache and runny nose I would order a PCR test. These are recognised symptoms in children, and as you will be going into hospital presumably, it would be good to know to put your mind at ease or to let the midwives know before you go in.

RaggieDolls · 15/04/2021 22:11

@Waterlemon I guess it must depend on the information source you are reading. The CDC say 4-5 days is the median.

Given the OP is isolating for ten days presumably she knows symptoms can start up to this point and that any average or even a median is just that.

Pleased she is feeling ok OP.

Ah, this happened to one of my friends, her 2 year old had to isolate due to contact with a case at nursery. As a single parent that meant she and her older son also had to isolate. All three of them soon after developed covid symptoms and positive tests all within a few days of each other. Not a nice story for you I'm afraid but looking at the responses on here it doesn't seem very common. Got my fingers tightly tightly crossed for you.
