Vaccine timing

Hi,
Hoping someone can help. My DD (21 with underlying minor heart condition) was given her first AZ vaccine 3 weeks ago. All good and she is very happy even with the recent news about how her age group should not receive this vaccine now.

She has today received a text message to book in for her second appointment this week and I am confused! I thought this vaccine was given 12 weeks later and looking on google I can only find info on 12 week gap. I am wondering if a mistake has been made with the text message. She is happy to go ahead and get the vaccine so she is fully covered, but I am concerned it will not be effective at this gap.

Has anyone else been called back at this gap for AZ?
Thanks

I think it's within 12 weeks of getting the first jab.

Ugh hit enter too soon. My dad is getting his second AZ dose this week which is about 8.5 weeks after his first.

Is it possibly a badly worded text? In that they mean book your appointment this week (for the future) rather than book your appointment this week (for 13-19 April)?

The gap was initially meant to be shorter but the JCVI changed their advice to make sure as many people as possible could have their first vaccine quicker and therefore more of the population would be covered quicker.

I've seen threads in my local Facebook group from people who have also had their appointments brought forward. This is because of supply issues, they want to make sure they have enough vaccine to give for second doses rather than inviting more people for 1st doses.

Thank you for the replies. Looks like it is safe to have earlier than anticipated.
It may be a badly worded text, I guess DD will let me know when she books it!

The gap was originally 3 weeks.

AZ is more efficient with a 12 week gap. It was Pfizer where the gap was lengthened to vaccinate more people.

I thought this as well. She has booked in now for Sunday which will actually be 5 weeks exactly, which is a bit longer than I thought originally. Hopefully they are not just trying to use up the AZ vaccine on people willing to have it!

To be honest I would try to delay it. The 12 week gap gives a much better immunity.

She should double check they realise she's already had one jab, it's been slow to update in some areas and my dd was still being called for her first jab 3 weeks after she had it whereas mine updated within 24 hours (different drs)
