Do I have the right to know which vaccine I will receive?

Hello!
I've booked a vaccination appointment, but in the confirmation message it is not saying which type of vaccine I will receive.
I tried to google it out, but the thing is carefully concealed in all NHS websites.

Is there a way to know this? Perhaps call the vaccination centre? (But I could not find their number).

I understand that I cannot choose which type of vaccine I will get, but I don't want to be a blind animal who does not have a right to know what is injected into its body.

Any ideas?

I got told when I got there. Before they gave it to me.

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 12:30

They'll tell you when you get there. Depends what stocks they have on a particular day I suppose

Ahbahbahbah · 13/04/2021 12:30

When you go for the jab the nurse will show you which vaccine you’re having and discuss any questions or concerns that you have. So you’ll find out at your appointment.

bigbluebus · 13/04/2021 12:33

You will be told when you get there and if there is any reason why they think that one is not appropriate for you (eg previous reactions) you will be asked to rebook when an alternative vaccine is available.

LostwithJin · 13/04/2021 12:40

Other than trying to call the centre you'll be informed at your appointment.
They cannot add it to the appointment confirmation as the vaccine delivery is all dependant on stock & weather its a 1st or 2nd vaccine delivery.

I wasn't told! The only way I knew was by the card they give you afterwards. I also wasn't given the leaflet that says 'if you have any of the following blah blah blah' until AFTER they had given me it... Hmm

Why didn't you ask? At my vaccination, we were given a leaflet at arrival and asked to read while waiting, then before injection, the nurse explained everything to me, including time for any question I had.

thanks!

You may find out by the location. Our GP practice can only give AZ as they haven't got the ability to keep the Pfeizer jab cold enough. You go to a local council office for that one.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/04/2021 12:53

They aren't deliberately concealing it - the vaccination centres usually don't know what vaccine they'll be getting on any given day.

ajandjjmum · 13/04/2021 12:54

Surely people understand that if everyone wants additional information before receiving their vaccine, it's going to slow down the whole process.

Research, and unless there are medical reasons not to, accept what you're given.

Racoonworld · 13/04/2021 12:55

I got given my card with the vaccine type and date before I had the jab so I knew what it was going to be.

TheQueef · 13/04/2021 12:57

You just open your gob before they jab you.....

Carefully concealed on the NHS website.?!?

everythingthelighttouches · 13/04/2021 13:00

Of course they will tell you!

NailsNeedDoing · 13/04/2021 13:04

Does anyone know what happens if you say you don’t want the type of vaccine that they have that day? If you refuse one type of vaccine are you considered to be refusing the vaccine altogether?

ifonly4 · 13/04/2021 13:04

I was told just before the pharmacist put the needle into the vial. It will also be confirmed on a card they give you. On my return for my second dose, they needed the card and also confirmed with me that it'd be the AZ one again.

Beans13 · 13/04/2021 13:06

I would assume a GP practice would be AZ, and larger centers or hospitals will be Pfizer where they have the ability to keep them cold.

Pumpkyumpkyumpkin · 13/04/2021 13:09

At our local centre there is a sign on the door stating what they are offering on that particular day

Confuzzlediddled · 13/04/2021 13:09

@Beans13 not necessarily, DH and i both had ours at the same GP hub, I had Pfizer and a couple of weeks later he had AZ

As far as I know you just go back in the queue but you’re certainly not flagged as a closed case. It may be some time before you can guarantee your preference though.
DancingInTheDaffodils · 13/04/2021 13:22

The doctor rang me to book a vaccination appointment, I asked and they told me it would be AstraZeneca.

If you want to know, ask

Husband had the Pfizer at the GP hub. I had the Oxford at the nightingale hospital. It's not necessarily set in stone.

Personally I'm not arsed what I get. Just get it over with IMO.

Devlesko · 13/04/2021 15:20

My neighbour told me after he'd been they were only offering one, can't remember which now.
If it's at a centre rather than gp ask around, someone will know.
