Has anyone caught covid after having a vaccination?

I've been shielding, hardly left the house. Although have kids who've been out to the park in the last couple of weeks. Had my first vaccination 6 weeks ago.

I now have covid symptoms - cough, no taste/smell (although I also have a cold so it mag be that), resting heart rate is 10bpm more than it usually is, etc.

I'm going to get a test, but wondered how common this is? I've been feeling awful for 3-4 days now (initially thought it was a bad cold) & not getting better, which is why I'm now querying covid.

Thanks all - well I tested negative for covid, but whatever it was has knocked me off my feet for nearly a week! Feeling a bit better today

I had a nasty cold a couple of weeks back... Pretty confident it was a cold rather than covid as none of the lateral flow tests taken by myself and others in the house who had similar symptoms were positive, and also the symptoms (head cold moving to chest over a few days but no fever) were classic cold symptoms rather than classic Covid symptoms. It was the worst cold I've had for many, many years though. I wonder if that's anything to do with the fact we had such limited exposure to colds or other virus due to social distancing over the past year. I hadn't had anything at all since mid-2019 - I normally pick something up even if it's very mild and short-lived.

I bet lots of people have just had a cold, but suspected covid. I think it's worrying that the default thought is that it must be covid. Hopefully this will become more balanced in time.

(I think, please correct me if wrong:)

Everyone jabbed will still technically be able to "catch" Covid.

It's more how strong your immune system is to battling off the virus.

The vaccine teaches your body how to do that.

Some virus gets in and is unable to replicate at all in cells as the antibodies destroy it. So no symptomatic immune reaction and no shedding of replicated virus which might be picked up on a test.

Some gets in and managed to evade the immune system enough to either cause symptoms or shed more relocated cells, which would be picked up on a test.

With a vaccine though the body has some or total ability to fight it and so both reduce or eliminate symptoms and if it's passed on to others.

Small pox was eradicated as it didn't evolve. Flu and cv evolve a lot so we need annual altered vaccines, and it's v hard to completely eradicate it. But we can lessen the impact and reduce circulation.

Having tested positive this week, 3-4 weeks after first vaccination, with what I thought were cold symptoms, I am a huge fan of lateral flow tests. Two other family members also tested positive on lateral flow, all confirmed by a follow up pcr. None of us had classic covid symptoms - no fever, no cough etc.

Whereas I bet loads of people who thought they just had a cold actually had covid!

Like @Alwaysfrank I thought I had a cold but LFT and PCR told me otherwise. Haven't had any of the three main symptoms.

Yes, a colleague had cold symptoms and a headache and that was only caught by a lateral flow test.
