Self isolating after second family positive test?

Please help! I am getting a bit confused...

My DS12 had a sore throat then tested positive on a LFT / confirmed PCR on 30th March. We have all self isolated and emerged on Friday after a very boring Easter holiday.

To allay the fears of a nervy friend I have done a LFT today and mine is positive 😭

DD15 has done a LFT today (negative) and DH will do one later. Do they have to self isolate again? Does DS have to? I really don't think DS needs to stay off school as he has just had it and I have it in my head that DH and DD are OK too because it's so close to DS' positive test.

The test and trace person did explain it to me last time but I can't remember Blush

You need to do a PCR test. If it's positive, Test & Trace will be on to you quicker than you can blink and they will tell you what to do (can you tell that this happened to our family recently?!).

Fingers crossed.

Covid can be picked up for weeks after a positive test... if you are ten days post test and have no active symptoms you are good to go.

Spinningaround21 · 12/04/2021 16:58

Oh did you ever have a test done? If not then you may need a pcr, you could of course been asymptomatic this whole time but you could also be starting with an infection

I think everyone has to isolate again for another 10 days. Every time I’ve been deemed a close contact with a positive case I had to isolate for various amounts of time which was tracked back by track and trace. DH was positive and I had to isolate for 10 days from the date of the positive test. I assume that would go for everyone in your household. Also please keep your child off school - don’t put the other students or staff at risk.

@MargaretThatcherMilkSnatcher yeah I have one booked for tomorrow. So frustrating!

Your children need to be off school and need to isolate unless you get a negative PCR.

I think I read that LFTs can pick up viral particles for 3 months after you have covid, so likely you caught it from DS when he had it, but yes, you should isolate until negative PCR test

Even my DS who definitely had it 2 weeks ago and seems to have given it to me???

My understanding is that if you'd tested positive before the isolation ended then everyone else would be good to go out but you'd have to isolate for an extra 10days.

But because the positive test was after the initial isolation period I think you all need to self isolate again.

As you're post initial isolation period though I think this won't apply.

That was the picture I was thinking of, thanks @zzzebra

Wishing I'd got a PCR last week within the original quarantine now...

OK I will keep them both off until I get my PCR result & hear from test and trace.

Thanks everyone.
