AZ first jab side effects

I had my first jab yesterday at 2pm.

My little boy woke at 2am after being put to bed and my DH put him back to sleep. I fell back asleep then at around 2.30am I woke with uncontrollably shaking. I was sweating profusely and unable to control myself. I managed to get to the loo but felt like I was going to pass out.

My DH got me back into bed and covered me with blankets. It took about an hour for it to settle. I fell back asleep and woke at 6.30 in agony. Everything hurt, I could not lift my head. My hips, lower back, shoulders etc were in pain.

I took some paracetamol and ibuprofen and managed to come around about 11.30.

I have felt horrible all day since.

Has anyone had any of these side effects. My parents have had the Pfizer vaccine and said they were fine.

Could this be normal or have I had an allergic reaction. I'm worried about the second dose.

They are common side effects.

It stated this on the slip the gave me when I had the vaccine and they warned me I might need to take paracetamol for a temperature, aches etc but that they shouldn't last long.

Luckily I didn't have any side effects.

Yes I had that for a couple of days. I remember feeling relieved I'd had the vaccine, knowing the side effects were like a tiny baby little example of what actual covid is like for many people.

Try not to worry. It's very common and doesn't last long. The reported extremely rare issues are just that. Extremely rare.

Rest when you can, stay hydrated, paracetamol if you need it. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

The side effects are NOT rare, I know so many people who have had these and worse.

Had my first jab on Friday morning - felt very cold for a couple of hours later Friday night but that was it, not even so much as a sore arm

PineappleTart · 12/04/2021 16:44

Very common side effects, younger people more likely to have stronger side effects, this means it's working well. I felt ill for a few days

Twospaniels · 12/04/2021 16:46

I know several people who had AZ and have had side effects like yours.

It think it’s ‘normal’ if they continue then speak to your GP.

Tealightsandd · 12/04/2021 17:05

@Uriahpeep Yes the flu like symptoms are common (as I said, I had them myself). I was referring to the media reports about the extremely rare clotting side effect. Just in case anyone reading this is scared about that, it's worth reminding people it's way more common to develop serious sometimes fatal clotting with actual covid.

Yes, I had my vaccine on Friday, then 24 hours later had very and intense and sudden onset of side effects. Like you, I collapsed in my bedroom before I could get into bed. I had an extremely high temperature, nausea, stomach cramps, shivering, pounding headache also electrical shock sensations from the vaccine site down my arm into my hand. It was really horrible. The worst side effects subsided within 6 hours but I still had the high temperature and headache most of Saturday night/Sunday morning. I have spoken to my GP today and he was very reassuring that this is all in the realms of normal. He warned I might get this all over again with the second vaccine and to take paracetamol well in advance.

On the positive side, think of all the antibodies your body must be producing! My DH had his vaccine 3 days before me and had no side effects.

Apparently (anecdotal evidence only) side effects from first AZ jab are worse than from second jab, and for Pfizer it's the other way around.
But really, the best vaccine is the one you can get!

I was going to say the same. Felt rough for 48 hrs after my first AZ vaccine, but no side effects except a slightly tender arm after the 2nd.

And colleagues who've had the Pfizer jab have felt rough after the 2nd after no issue with the first.

Theunamedcat · 12/04/2021 18:43

My auntie shook for days

aiwblam · 12/04/2021 18:45

Very common. I had almost the exact same.

Gothichouse40 · 12/04/2021 18:46

I didn't have nausea, dizziness or shaking, but had everything else. I was told to take paracetamol, not ibuprofen for side effects. You will feel better, but it does give you a bit of a fright.

Haphazardhacker · 13/04/2021 14:32

I felt very shivery the night of the jab then felt very off still and collapsed the following day, lost consciousness. It happened again the next morning. I’ve now been off work for nearly a month while I wait for a neurology appointment to try rule out epilepsy. Obviously don’t know for sure it was the jab but a few of the doctors said probably linked.

Thelema72 · 15/04/2021 08:29

Had it yesterday morning, not a single side effect

Cailleach · 15/04/2021 08:36

I had mine on Tuesday evening...I spent all day yesterday on the sofa feeling as though I had flu. Horrendous, was not expecting to feel so unwell.

Feel much better today but will be booking my next jab the day before my days off just in case.

Vickles20 · 15/04/2021 08:53

Yes, sounds what I had OP. I took paracetamol for a good few days after. I’m two weeks on and have virtually turned a corner. But everyone’s different though. My friend had it the same day and felt really rough initially (like you) then bounced back and had nothing else after. I felt a bit rough on and off for a fortnight. No shakes (she had shakes). Mild headache and feel like my glands in my neck we’re tender. Arm tender for a day or two.
Even had a blood test as I was worried about some bruising I had on my lower back (but that turned out to be completely unrelated in the end) but I’m mentioning it as my platelets/bloods came
Back normal

Vickles20 · 15/04/2021 08:57

Just remember. 4 weeks after your first a-z jab you are 94% less likely to be hospitalised with covid. Pfizer jab is not as high as that, still good, but not as much protection as 94%. And barely anyone has had side effects after their A-Z second jab
