AZ rare central nervous system reaction

IloveSooty424 · 12/04/2021 10:48

I had my AZ vaccine on Friday afternoon and within five minutes of the vaccine entering my left arm my left hand and wrist felt numb. On Saturday night I had stabbing pains that felt like electric shocks going down my left arm as well as lots of other unpleasant side effects. The shock sensations started to go away after around five and a half hours, but I’ve been left with tingling sensations in my hand and fingers when I use my hand. I was reading through the side effect leaflet the came with the vaccine and it said:

In clinical trials there were very rare reports of events associated with inflammation of the nervous system, which may cause numbness, pins and needles and/or loss of feeling.

Has anyone else experienced this? My GP is phoning me this afternoon to discuss it with me.

I had a pins and needles feeling in my arms and legs. It did go after a few days. I also had pain down both arms and legs but it has gone. I must mention that I have an autoimmune condition, and I wasn't completely sure if it was this or the vaccination. Hope speaking to your GP reassures you.

Perhaps the needle hit a nerve rather than it being a reaction to the vaccination.

Forgot to say, please report this to the yellow card system.

Yeah this if it's just in your left arm. Have had similar happen when having a blood test before.

I had this with a Hep B shot - it's taken months but my fingers are back to normal now - she must have just twanged something slightly doing the jab.

Have you got anything like anaemia/thyroid issues or vegan?

IloveSooty424 · 12/04/2021 14:04

My DH said they may have hit a nerve with the needle. I don’t have any underlying health conditions. I have just spoken with my GP and he thinks it will subside in a couple of days. He said it isn’t related to the blood clotting issue. However if I develop any headaches or abdominal pain in the coming days to phone back. He was very reassuring but did say I may experience the same side effects on the second vaccine. That’s something I’ll have to brace myself for!

I have reported it on the yellow card system.
