Hi, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

A member of my family have attended their pre-booked appointment at a large vaccination centre this morning for their 2nd Pfizer vaccine. On arrival they were asked to show their card from the first dose and were told the centre do not have any Pfizer doses available and haven’t had any all week. The nurse was apologetic and said she has had to send lots of people away for the same reason. Family member has been told to contact GP tomorrow to try to arrange another appointment at another centre.

Why would they not cancel these people, the nurse was very frustrated saying they have plenty of Astra Zeneca but can only invite so many people per day so these people turning up for the Pfizer are taking appointments away from those would can have the AZ one. Very frustrating!!

@AbsentmindedWoman I'm in northern Westchester County, not far from you. I don't think it matters much, but your second Moderna dose should have been scheduled 28 days after the first, as your wife's was. Did you go to one of the state run centers or a pharmacy?

AbsentmindedWoman · 11/04/2021 22:16

@MissConductUS Ah! A neighbour then Smile

We both had ours done at different city run vaccination centres.

I checked the timing guidelines on the CDC site once I saw the date they'd booked me for, and it says there is a window for the second dose Moderna for 24 to 32 days so I was quite happy with the scheduling.

Just glad to have it done!

I was lucky enough to get a 1st dose of Pfizer at the weekend, GP surgery sent out a mass message to everyone saying they had lots of spares so come join the queue, first come first served. I was number 205, DH number 206 and they had just under 240 doses going spare. The queue ended up in the local paper as it stretched on forever.

Bit concerned about whether the second dose will happen and have it flagged in my calendar to follow up if I haven't heard anything by week 10.

MissConductUS · 11/04/2021 22:37

@AbsentmindedWoman, yes, I'm a Yank and native New Yorker and I worked in the city for many years. It's lovely to meet you. We're very fond of our Brits in NY, as I'm sure you know.

It is really good to have it done. My husband and I have both had our second Pfizer doses and my son had his first this morning. Now we just have to get our daughter sorted, which is hard because she's in Massachusettes at university.

It's possible it's more about persevering stock than no stock whatsoever, ie if there isnt that many booked into to that clinic it's better to cancel that clinic and add those onto another day so the full capacity is used and none going to waste.

that is really lucky. Where abouts in the country are you? I haven't heard of this in London, seems like it's gold dust here

It's pretty easy to book a jab in New York at the moment. Supply has gotten much, much better in the last few weeks. DH and I finished ours a couple of weeks ago and our 21 year old DS had his first jab yesterday. We all got the Pfizer vaccine.

Ladylimpet · 12/04/2021 09:07

I had first dose Pfizer on Fri. I'm 42. Wasn't expecting one so soon and was a bit surprised. I'm in high peak area of Derbyshire. I got a text inviting me to book.
I know I'm lucky and it isn't the norm.

Etulosba · 13/04/2021 11:18

The 2 people I know who have had 2nd doses, got them early (1-3 weeks early). One in Norfolk, one in central London.

That was the same with my mum too.

LyndaLaHughes · 24/04/2021 22:45

I had a second dose of Pfizer yesterday at exactly 8 weeks. Was delighted to get it so early- but the mass vaccination centre I had my first dose at is closing next week as it is a football ground so I presume needed back.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 25/04/2021 01:44

My Dad got his this week fine. They hadn’t given him a second appointment so I rang GP at week 10 to chase and was given one on week 11 which was Pfizer. My Mum is due hers soon so fingers crossed this doesn’t happen. She was given 2nd appointment at same time as first.

indiakulfi · 25/04/2021 03:27

My family had second dose of Pfizer with no problem but they both had it earlier than their age group because of their jobs.

This is a copybof an email I received as im signed up to a different trial.

This could be great for the over 50s. Just running in areas in England.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study looking at what happens in the immune system when a second (boost) dose of COVID-19 vaccine is a different type to the first. We are looking for people who have already had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine through the NHS vaccine roll out programme. This is being run by the NIHR, and the Oxford Vaccine Group, which is part of the University of Oxford.

If you are aged 50 years and over, and have received only one dose of COVID-19 vaccine from the NHS vaccine programme so far, then you may be eligible to take part in the study. We will provide reimbursement up to for your time, inconvenience and travel. The total study participation time is up to 10 months. If you are interested in finding out more, please visit our website, where you can access the Study Information Booklet.

Happened to my dad, he rang the drs and got a new appointment a few days later when he had his second jab no problem.

amicissimma · 25/04/2021 18:41

I was about to sign up for the ComCov2 study but, reading their information, I found that it was a good idea to check with your travel insurer that cover wouldn't be affected. I've emailed mine but had no reply.

I'm a bit concerned that it might be a problem in other areas, perhaps certain countries or suppliers mightn't accept either the different jabs or the uncertainty of not knowing which had been given until unblinded.

I reluctantly decided not to go ahead in case of meeting 'computer says no' in some tricky situation.

Hullabaloo31 · 25/04/2021 22:26

My surgery are giving AZ 2nd jabs at about 8 weeks, but there are people who have gone just past 12 for Pfizer as they just aren't getting it sent. Then when some dies appear, they have a backlog.

goose1964 · 25/04/2021 22:42

I'm booked in for 13th may. I hope they have it
