I went for my first AZ vaccine at 2.30 Friday afternoon. I barely felt the vaccine go in but walking home I started to experience numbness and sharp pains in my hand and wrist on the vaccinated arm within about five minutes of being vaccinated. I stared to get very concerned I would have a very strong reaction.
The next day my head felt foggy but nothing I couldn’t cope with. Then around 4pm in the afternoon, 26 hours post vaccine, it was like switch had been flicked on. I started to experience convulsions, waves of nausea and shaking violently with an extremely high temperature. I also had electric shock sensations shooting down my arm from the vaccine site to my wrist and hand. The vaccine site on my arm had turned red and had swelled up. I went upstairs to get into bed and collapsed in the bedroom. I then experienced really intense symptoms for around 5 hours before they started to subside. For the rest of the night I had a very high temperature and pounding headache.
This morning my temperature is back down to normal and I’m just feeling exhausted. Obviously I’m feeling better because I’m on Mumsnet! I’m sure the worst is over now. Both my mum and my sister had very strong reactions to the vaccine so I wondering if it’s genetic.
Despite this horrible experience I’m still glad I had the vaccine, and the discomfort I felt far outweighs being hospitalised with Covid-19. I really don’t want to put people off. Please get your vaccines. I just kept thinking I must be making so many antibodies!
If anyone had a bad reaction to their first vaccine like me and have received their second vaccine please could you share your experiences. I have read that the second vaccine is largely innocuous. I’m really hoping that is the case.
I’m sorry for the long post. I felt I needed to share my experience and think I will phone my GP tomorrow for reassurance, especially the red swelling on my arm.
