Honeymoon next March?

Plump82 · 10/04/2021 09:26

We got married last year. We've accepted a honeymoon this year isn't going to happen so are considering somewhere in the Caribbean next March. Our only concern is insurance but looking at Tui they have free cancellation till Feb 2022 so I reckon we would be ok? Would anyone else consider this or are we mad.

I'd do it! We've booked Florida for next April. We can move the holiday for up to a year with Virgin and we found insurance that covers just about everything, including not travelling as we've been told to isolate.

Cornettoninja · 10/04/2021 09:38

I’ve been averse to booking travel throughout but I think March 22 sounds like a reasonably good bet personally. As you say, you’ve got a decent cancellation criteria if winter does go tits up.

Factor in the cost of hotel quarantine on return jic.

See this is what's making me nervous because i dont know what id do if this happened. 1, we couldn't afford a honeymoon plus hotel for quarantine and 2, we couldn't get extra time off work.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - would you mind sharing where you got your insurance?

@Plump82 we booked the insurance through Allianz.

Mindymomo · 10/04/2021 10:13

For insurance look at Staysure and have up to date info covering covid. I personally would wait to book for March 2022, although I know a few people who have booked to go then.

bookworm1632 · 10/04/2021 11:33

Well if they have free cancellation you'll know much more in Feb 2022.

IF the government traffic light system actually gets up and running, then you can keep an eye on the status of where you're going. Currently Barbados is green for example.

If next Feb it's amber/red, you'll know to cancel.

moochingtothepub · 10/04/2021 11:45

We are booked for next year, has a clause we can cancel without charge up to 8 weeks out for any reason so if we can see that things are dodgy we can pull out

Againstmachine · 10/04/2021 12:14

Noone knows at this point what the situation will be like in 11 months time.

It's a risk booking it, it might turn out fine it may not.

A honeymoon the year after getting married is just a holiday right Wink

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/04/2021 12:33

I’d wait, you’re already married and have been for some time so it’s just a holiday. We don’t know what next winter will bring yet and no one knows how long the vaccines will last or if it will mutate again etc.

Plump82 · 10/04/2021 14:32

Aww don't spoil it for me, im desperate to go on honeymoon!

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 10/04/2021 19:46

Of course it’s your honeymoon @Plump82 and I hope it’s everything you want it to be. Fingers crossed for you.

Katie517 · 10/04/2021 19:52

I think it will be fine OP and those saying it’s just a holiday don’t be so unkind it’s obviously a special holiday/ honeymoon even though it’s after the wedding.

I do think now the vaccines are here we are on a one way street to normality albeit a slow street! If they aren’t the way out then nothing will be and we can’t live like this for any longer, states in the US are now pretty much back to normal as is Israel people won’t tolerate this going on into 2022 if the vaccines don’t solve the issue I think we will have no choice but to just get on with it.

I think it’s incredibly naive that people think this way of life can continue on and on with no line drawn to say enough is enough.

TimeForLunch · 10/04/2021 19:56

I think you'd be fine this year, to be honest. Just book something that's cancellable. Probably easier to assess the coming months than next year.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/04/2021 20:09

Of course it's your honeymoon! We got married in September 2012 and had our honeymoon in May 2013 as it was more convenient. It was still our honeymoon.

Providing you can move/cancel your honeymoon if necessary and have insurance then I'd book it. It's good to have something to look forward to! We originally booked Orlando but have decided to change to the Gulf Coast/Atlantic Coast instead and I'm loving planning it.

Skigal86 · 12/04/2021 07:03

Worth having a look at British Airways too, not sure what their policy on holidays is but on flights you can rebook/get a voucher with no change fees up to the end of April next year. Obviously if your flight is cancelled you’d get a refund anyway but if you just don’t feel comfortable going or restrictions are too severe for your liking you can just change destinations or dates. I’m about to book for next Easter as soon as the flights go on sale!
