Had Jab. Worried.

blvdbrokendreams · 09/04/2021 22:00

I had the asta vaccine. Then they are now recommending that under 30s shouldn't have it. Im 26. Im really freaking out. I have anxiety which I am seeing a counselor for..im under the perinatal team which is why I had the jab.

I know it sounds stupid and I'm not in any way saying I shouldn't have had it. But my brain is really making me freak out.

Can anyone help me calm down

Do you have any debilitating headaches, visual disturbances, onset of vomiting? Stay alert to those symptoms but if not just go about your day. The odds are in your favour.

blvdbrokendreams · 09/04/2021 22:06

I've got a red patch where they gave me the jab..I had a headache yesterday the day after the jab..I feel a bit light headed when I stand up but I've not really eaten properly because I'm feeling anxious. I'm really overanalysing every symptom

@skyliner001 any reason for that? I have a diagnosed mental health disorder. I'm not going to stand up and say I'm not having the jab..im going to say that I feel anxious

Please try not to think about it. I’m saying this as someone who had the AZ three weeks ago. I’m female, under 40 and I still believe the odds are massively in your favour. Have you ever taken any medication like aspirin or contraceptive pill? Given birth? I’ve done the latter twice and not once did a blood clot even enter my head.

You might feel iffy due to vaccination for a couple of days but that’s it. You’re right in saying you’re over thinking it. Have something to eat, relax with a good film or whatever. You will be fine.

And Yayy for being half way protected against covid!!! What a year we’ve all had.

blvdbrokendreams · 09/04/2021 22:24

@vallmo47 thank you. That really helps. I have been on the pill about 7 years ago and I gave birth 8 months ago.

Your right. I'm very overthinking it. I've put a film on and decided to have some cake.

I think staying off Google might help me

The odds are overwhelmingly in your favour that you will be fine. Obviously be aware of blood clot symptoms but you are highly likely to be unaffected. I’m older than you but also had AZ. I had a sore arm, ached all over abs had a headache for 24 hours. I was absolutely fine after that. Take care Flowers

lljkk · 09/04/2021 22:27

19yo DD had her 2nd AZ jab 2 days ago. She's been fine.

Maybe I tell a lie. I bumped into her smoking today (on the street). Head a Long spiel about how this is the first ciggie in ages (yeah, and I just fell off a Turnip Truck). The cancer sticks are rather bigger problem than whatever jab she had.

I humbly submit your anxiety is The Big Problem in your life, OP. Not whatever jab you had.

blvdbrokendreams · 09/04/2021 22:30

@lljkk no need to be humble..my anxiety is really playing up today. Its definitely a big problem. I messaged my therapist who's ringing me Monday morning. Thank you for the reassurance

Ignore unpleasant posters.

I’m 56, had my first a month ago, very much looking forward to receiving my second in early June. No after effects and no concerns.
Easy for me to say though, at my age. I may well have been more concerned at your age, after the media scaremongering of the past week.
The risk to you is minuscule. You are more likely to be struck by lightning, to die in a road traffic accident or to fall down the stairs or drown in your bath than you are to develop an incredibly rare blood clot as a result of your vaccination.
Be vigilant for the next couple of weeks. Those who have suffered from this extremely rare side effect have fallen ill between 4 and 20 days of receiving their vaccination (the majority within the first week). If you suffer from a severe headache for 4 days or more experience unexplained bruising away from the sight of injection or bouts of vomiting seek advice from your doctor.
The statistics are very much on your side. My children, 18 and 26, would very willingly take the AZ vaccine tomorrow without question because they have no contra-indicatory medical history.
It’s not widely publicised but also bear in mind that in the very unlikely worst case scenario, the majority of people who have suffered these particular blood clots have not died as a result.

Skysblue · 09/04/2021 22:41

If you’re old enough that you’re more likely to die of covid than you are from the AZ, then the govt will only offer you the AZ (because is cheap and they have lots available and don’t have much other vaccines).

If you’re so young that you’re more likely to die from an AZ side effect than you are of covid, then they’ve said that they’ll offer you a different (more expensive) vaccine because they’re worried otherwise young people won’t get vaccinated.

You are so young that you are v unlikely to die from either covid or thhe AZ. This is good.

Report any worrying side effects over the next two weeks but otherwise - Try not to think about it.

confusedfriday · 09/04/2021 22:45

I’m no older, in my 30s, also worried. Most of clots occurred in 30-40 years old actually, from what I understand. It’s done now and I will just try not to get myself too anxious. I’m only next day after jab, feel very flu like.

confusedfriday · 09/04/2021 22:45

I’m older*

DenisetheMenace · 09/04/2021 22:53

As I understand it, feeling ‘flu like” is an expected and in fact positive sign. It means your antibodies are kicking in.

blvdbrokendreams · 09/04/2021 22:57

@Denisethemenace oh that's good. I think im overthinking.

Not at all. I’m a huge advocate of the vaccines but also have veinous insufficiency and quite regular phlebitis, so if I were in my 30s not 50s I think I would probably be concerned too. My concern would be unfounded though because the data is clear, very much on your side and you are at greater risk by not having the vaccine.
I do wish that the media would point out that most people who have suffered from these incredibly rare clots have in fact been successfully treated. Not such a dramatic headline, I suppose.

choirmumoftwo · 09/04/2021 23:07

DD (19) had AZ vaccine at beginning of March. Even with the news this week, she's delighted to have had it and looking forward to the 2nd dose.
It really is very safe.

Indeed, many SAGE scientists saying this week that if you had no adverse effect from the first dose, it is “vanishingly unlikely” that you will have any reaction at all to the second.

I worry that we have already forgotten what a miraculous achievement these vaccines are.
Every medication has very rare side-effects.

Shieldingending · 10/04/2021 21:09

How are you feeling today OP?

RedcurrantPuff · 10/04/2021 21:48

Remember the risks are tiny even for under 30s. Just be mindful of the symptoms and seek medical advice if you’ve got them.

I’m sure you’ll be just fine :)

Wincher · 10/04/2021 23:36

There is no greater risk for the under 30s to have it than there is for any other age group - it’s just that the risks of complications from COVID are so low in that age group that the vaccine risks outweigh the virus risks fractionally. But it’s really not a concern. Hope you feel happier about it soon.

sleepwouldbenice · 11/04/2021 00:54

Hello
Hope you are starting to feel calmer
What might help is remembering that doctors have also said that, if caught early enough, the clotting impact is treatable
So, if you are aware of the symptoms and obviously flag if they happen to you then the chances of you having devastating side effects is even lower?
Hope this helps. X

Gothichouse40 · 11/04/2021 02:36

I was like you, happy to have made my decision to have the vaccine, then all this clot business began. As another poster said just keep an eye on any symptoms of possible blood clot, but Im sure it will be ok. Im avoiding the news and in particular newspapers, as they seem to be doing a grand job of scaring the hell out of the general public. The media have been terrible during this Pandemic, very sensationalist reporting in some quarters. Do what I do, switch your TV off and don't look at newspapers for a while. You will feel better.
