How was your first cold post Covid?

Hi there - my family all tested positive for Covid back in December (my experience was like it was a bad cold, with sneezes, sniffles etc). Roll on 3.5 months and I now have my first cold (sure it’s this with kids back to school). But the symptoms are SO similar I can’t help but think of Covid. I had a test yesterday (based on coughing and sense of smell) to hopefully it out, but in the meantime, just curious to know that out of people who have had confirmed Covid over the last year, how was your first cold since? Did it feel the same?

My sense of smell has gone again too (though perhaps not quite as bad or ‘stingy’) and maybe the cough was dryer last time... ah I don’t know! Regretting getting the test in a way but knew I had to, to hopefully rule it out. I’d have to be pretty unlucky to get it again, wouldn’t I?! Am 40 so not vaccinated yet.

I'd get tested if I were you, just to be sure

I don’t think posting for other anecdotal evidence is going to help in this case. You will get a lot of random answers but it’s totally possible to get covid twice. I hope it isn’t but good that you have tested to make sure.

Thanks both - yes got tested yesterday so let’s see what the results say (hopefully get them today/tomorrow). I was just interested in others experiences following Covid Smile

What symptoms did you have in December out of interest?

tweetingbird · 09/04/2021 23:21

Hi Bookworm - for me (I consider myself lucky!) - my symptoms when I tested positive back in December, really were like a bad cold. No fever (ever), but minor coughing, lots of sneezing and tissues, like a real head cold. The only thing I can remember which felt slightly “different” to any cold I’d had before was that on about Day 5, my nose felt really “stingy” and I couldn’t smell anything. However, now I know with my ‘normal’ cold this week that I also couldn’t smell anything!

As some reassurance therefore I do think for many ppl it can be mild - and very much like a cold, that’s why so important to test!

My first "cold" post COVID was exactly like yours (inc the tingly/stingy sinuses) and I tested positive (again). My first real actual cold was mild but wore me out for a week.

Ah no way, sorry to hear you had it twice! Was it the same both times, how far apart?

You're not supposed to test for 90 days post covid because it can still show up on the tests. You likely didn't have it twice just it was still showing from the first time
Porcupineintherough · 10/04/2021 11:14

@OpheliasCrayon there were 9 months and 6 negative tests (long COVID clinic research ) bw my infections - it was a new infection. Unsurprising as I only make v short term antibodies. Its uncommon to be infected twice but actually not that rare. Perhaps you need to be better read on the subject?

@tweetingbird no much, much milder the second time. Like a bad cold whereas the first time I was really quite bad.
