I know of one elderly person who had 1st vaccine back in Jan who has covid, they thought he had a bad chest infection and was sent to hospital and was tested for covid and it was positive. Just interested to know really if you know anyone who has had covid after the vaccinations and how are they.

Yes..a friend of mine. Had her 1st vaccine and then got covid. She said she felt dreadful for one day and then she was OK...feels fine apart from a headache.

I know of a care home where all residents had they're first vaccinations and a fortnight later covid ripped through the home some unfortunately lost their lives whilst others recovered. Some had symptoms and some didn't. Obviously I'm sure the ages of the residents played a massive factor along with underlying health issues. However some of the staff also tested positive after first dose some were fine with no symptoms and others were quite poorly but didn't need hospital treatment.

I tested positive 11 days post vaccine. Symptoms were mild- cold and minor cough. Am now 6 weeks post positive test and have been very very tired easily but that is easing. Still a little breathless walking quickly

I know 2 people.

  1. 40yr female, had 1st vaccine (health worker), 3 weeks later caught covid and had cough, but remained at home

  2. 48yr female, had both vaccines due to having downs syndrome. Caught covid a month later, hospitalised with breathing difficulties and died 3 days later. Sad

I guess the vaccine hadn't had enough time to work before they contacted it? Very sad for all involved

How sad, especially when they were so close to having protection from the first vaccination as well.

Yes, a health care worker, who was on the vaccine trial for AZ (later confirmed that she had both doses of the Covid vaccine, rather than control).

She had it mildly, felt tired more than anything, slight cough. She's quite young and fit though, so probably wouldn't have had it badly regardless. She feels that it was likely to have made it milder though.

I know a couple of people who’ve caught covid within a couple of weeks of having their first dose (close enough that they considered the possibility they’d actually caught it at the vaccination appointment). All recovered relatively quickly but nothing spectacularly different to unvaccinated people who’ve had covid.

The oldest person I know (80’s) was hospitalised but discharged and home within days. The husband of a couple where the wife had been vaccinated through work caught it and was in hospital for a few weeks and still isn’t back at work two months later. I’m not clear how much of that is due to physical health or mental health. He was really quite badly traumatised from being on the ward and witnessing other peoples illness and deaths. She was back at work pretty much straight after her isolation period. Both late 40’s.

My Auntie and Uncle caught it through household mixing at Christmas. Four ended up with it in the group, my Auntie was the only one who'd been vaccinated (10 days before). She felt pretty rough (I don't think it helped that she was worried about her DH and DS), but she had it nowhere near as bad as the others (one hospitalised).
