Vaccine spacing

I'm confused how this works
So I had my first vaccine the same day as my parents, mine booked online, theirs via GP

Their second jab is Sunday so 5 weeks
Mine is May so 13 weeks
Confused

Supposed to be within 12 weeks so 13 weeks is too much of a gap

QueenPaw · 07/04/2021 12:47

So is 5 weeks enough of a gap? Seems mega quick!

Nhs says 3-12 weeks as a gap

user1493494961 · 07/04/2021 12:49

I had a second Pfizer within six weeks, a friend who had AZ will have 11 week gap.

QueenPaw · 07/04/2021 12:52

Oh we have both had AZ

At least in my local area they are bringing forward the 2nd appointments for some people instead of moving onto giving 1st doses to the under 50s. That could be what is happening.

DieSchottin93 · 07/04/2021 13:07

My dad has just got his letter for his second jab and it will be 8 weeks and 4 days after his first dose. He got the AstraZeneca one.

RoseWineTime · 07/04/2021 13:11

A longer gap had been shown to improve the AZ vaccine efficacy - can your parents rebook for later?

hashbrownsandwich · 07/04/2021 13:14

I believe NHS guidance doesn't allow for it to be administered after 12 weeks.

QueenPaw · 07/04/2021 13:36

Hmm! Mine was online so I booked the second date at the same time as the first
My parents got contacted and then got an invite for the second one which came through this week
Both first doses done on 6th Feb

OP posts:
FlattestWhite · 07/04/2021 13:39

If their first dose was 6th Feb, that's much longer than 5 weeks now.

I think they are being told to pull people forward for second doses earlier than booked, but not earlier than 8 weeks, even for Pfizer.

I don't think there is data that shows Pfizer is better after a longer gap, but there is for AZ. I don't think there is much data that shows it is worse to wait for Pfizer, though.

Oh FFS I'm thinking it's March BlushBlushBlush

My parents have finally been called for their second Pfizer next week which is 13 weeks after their first. I'm generally quite laid back but wondering whether this is ok.

My 85 year old mother has been for her second Pfizer today, 11 weeks after the first, but unfortunately she was unable to have it due to her GP giving her a steroid injection yesterday. She was told at the vaccine centre that she has to wait until two weeks after the steroid injection, which obviously puts her at 13 weeks (and that’s providing that there’s a Pfizer clinic available that she can go to). I’m very concerned and have told her to call her GP surgery first thing on Monday.
