What happens if AZ is paused and you are due your second dose?

Hi, I’m not trying to be a doom monger but there seems to be a lot in the news about AZ and it potentially being paused whilst things are investigated.

I’ve had my first dose and am due my second in a few weeks. What happens if due to any pause I miss my appointment? Can I have another type of jab?

I suppose nobody knows but I’m starting to worry now. I just really want my second jab.

But how many people have died from covid in that period, who wouldn't have died if they'd had the vaccine?

How many young healthy women have died from covid in that period?

Even the UK is now restricting it, though obviously at a younger age cut off than other countries.

CovidCorvid · 07/04/2021 15:31

So Bbc are reporting under 30s no longer to get AZ....unless it’s your second dose and then you can still have it. Not sure I’m reassured and I’m as far from an anti vaxxer as you can get.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 07/04/2021 15:31

The risk is minuscule and practically non-existent compared to the risk of contracting coronavirus. I've already had my first AZ and I'm looking forward to my next dose in a couple of weeks with 100% confidence in it.

OverTheRubicon · 07/04/2021 15:33

Covid itself causes a much higher risk of blood clots than the vaccine. On medical advice I'll be taking low dose aspirin a week before and 2 weeks after, but otherwise going ahead.

Sansaplans · 07/04/2021 15:33

@Sakura7

So the EMA is confirming that the clotting disorder is a side effect of the vaccine but they're not changing their guidelines. 18 people (most, if not all women) have died FFS.
Out of how many people?
ineedaholidaynow · 07/04/2021 15:34

I suppose they now know what side effects to look out for.

Sounds like there is much more risk of getting a blood clot with COVID than with the vaccine.

Sansaplans · 07/04/2021 15:35

@Cam77

Some people ridiculed as antivac are/were in fact just pro “vaccines done properly”. And some people are, rightly or wrongly, concerned that some Covid vaccines were rushed before we had enough time to fully study short term side effects (never mind long term ones) . This will be doing nothing to ease their concern. Pausing them for under 40s/50s while further research is done might be the logical thing right now.
But as it's so rare, unless they were trialling it on huge amounts of people, they more than likely wouldn't have found it out during trials either.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/04/2021 15:35

On the other thread I've given a run down of what was actually said... not quite as ^^

ineedaholidaynow · 07/04/2021 15:36

3 under 30 died

ineedaholidaynow · 07/04/2021 15:37

Very rare side effects will only become obvious with large roll out.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 07/04/2021 15:50

How many young healthy women have died from covid in that period?

Yes, that was my point! Probably more than you think. Go look it up then come back here with your "ffs" and turning the whole thing into a feminist issue

ineedaholidaynow · 07/04/2021 15:55

I wonder how many people die after the flu jab?

ilovesooty · 07/04/2021 15:59

@daisypond

Most people who have had AZ will be older, and the concern is with younger people. I had my first and hope to have the second at the set time. I had no side effects at all with the first, so don’t expect any with the second.
Same here.
Chailatteplease · 07/04/2021 15:59

I won’t be having my second unless I’m offered an alternative. At 34 it’s too close for comfort to me. Had awful side effects from the first one too, wish I hadn’t of bothered now.

Sansaplans · 07/04/2021 15:59

But also it's impossible to know without a breakdown of those in the age groups who have been vaccinated whether women are more likely to be affected, or whether more have had their jabs.
grapewine · 07/04/2021 16:01

@Cornettoninja

a left over AZ jab my cousin brought home from work last night

If you’re telling the truth that is absolutely not ok and your cousin should be fired

Yes, wth? She took it home with her?
Thisisit2021 · 07/04/2021 16:09

I've had covid now for exactly 368 days.
I had the AZ vaccine today (female in 40s) and felt nothing but relief.
I smiled when I was told I might feel rough, because this has been my year on and off.
Not long ago, I woke up and thought my bones had been crushed in the night. Nausea, fatigue, joint pain (sometimes severe I can't use knees, wrists properly) muscle ache, is my 'new normal.'
I really hope the media don't balls this up if it's just to get sensationalism, because I really want the second vaccine!

Thisisit2021 · 07/04/2021 16:10

I should say long covid. I havent tested positive for that long!!

Corrag · 07/04/2021 16:20

I was wondering about this earlier. Many millions of people have had the AZ jab. Out of those millions a proportion of them may well have had covid at the time they were jabbed. We know asymptomatic covid happens quite often. So is it possible some of these people had covid and that caused the clot, rather than the vaccine? Or at least played a part? I don't know, I guess the scientists will be considering that.

HandlebarLadyTash · 07/04/2021 16:26

Still planning on getting the 2nd jab, covid risk is higher than blood clot risk

DdraigGoch · 07/04/2021 17:02

I had my first jab a week ago (aged 26). A bad hangover for 24hrs and then back to normal. I'll take my second jab as soon as I get the call.

littlebillie · 07/04/2021 17:04

There is much higher risk with other everyday medications ( and air travel) we are seeing a concentration of side effects due to the high numbers and density of treatment.

sleepwouldbenice · 07/04/2021 17:40

It really is amazing how little people don't understand risk and statistics
Unless you are at risk directly medically, just trust those who understand medicine and statistics more than you
Or stay in forever

Willyoujustbequiet · 07/04/2021 17:58

I dont want my second one now.

I had awful side effects, my gp flagged it up. I have sudden deaths of young people in my immediate family from bleeding issues. I wouldn't have had it if I'd known.
