Is anyone having second thoughts about AZ vaccine?

I know there are quite a few threads on the AZ vaccine and the suspected blood clots link. I’m booked in to have my first vaccine on Friday afternoon and I’m feeling extremely nervous should I be offered the AZ. I’m very pro-vaccine and always thought I would have it without hesitation but this is making me having second thought, especially when the most incompetent and untrustworthy PM we’ve ever had comes on the tv and says everything’s fine folks, have the vaccine.

My situation is I’m 42 so not very young but not in the older age group either, I have a family history of blood clots and it’s the reason I’ve never wanted to take the pill. I’m slightly overweight, dress size 14-16, but have no underlying health conditions but suffer from debilitating generalised anxiety disorder which I take medication for. I know my GP practice will offer me AZ on Friday. Everyone who’s been there has received AZ so far. I don’t know whether to wait until I can get a Pfizer vaccine at a vaccination centre. I just don’t know what to do. I’m hoping by Friday the picture will be clearer.

@RoseAndRose I assumed most in groups 1&2 would have had it earlier (& therefore more had Pfizer)

The OP is talking about having her first vaccine this week & Alexa Shut up & Stillgoings have had it in the last 10 days in their 40s -presumably if any of them worked as care /NHS would have had it much sooner - so it may be they fall into priority group 4 CEV or group 6 (condition making them more at risk)? Either way, if they are at a higher risk of a worse outcome of Covid then it makes having the vaccine even more sensible. Alternatively it may be that some over 40s are getting vaccines in some areas, I was just curious if that was the case?

I’m under 40, with autoimmune conditions, on the pill and had my first AZ jab in March. I have no hesitation in getting my second one when it comes round next month. My risk from COVID is far far higher than any (potential) risk of clots from the jab so it’s a no brainier for me.

@Babyroobs

I have had first AZ jab but after 4 days had a very scary episode with my eye, like a focal seizure almost and loss of vision and severe pain in my eye, also awful headache for eight days after. Of course I cannot say it was definitely linked to the jab but this episode was like nothing I have ever experienced before and for that reason I am concerned about having the second dose.
Did you yellow card it *@Babyroobs?*

I'm so envious of people who have no hesitation getting their second jab (or who just got Pfizer). I think I'll need to see a lot more evidence and understanding coming out about this condition before I feel confident that they have any idea what the risk is. I'm only 10 days post shot 1 so don't have to decide for ages.
@VaVaGloom

Lots of people in groups 1 and 2 are in their 40s or younger (care and NHS staff)
And group 4 includes the CEV, which is not defined my age and includes plenty of younger people
I got a text from my GP practice to book. They’re a university campus practice and there are no students around so must be very quiet. I wasn't eligible to book online

I am 30s and I am concerned to a point - I understand how slight the risk is, but I’m a bit of a worrier when it comes to health (needless to say, I feel lucky not to have contracted covid so far according to my antibody test). I will be interested to see the further information that comes out - I’m currently pregnant and so I can’t have it at the moment anyway (I’m a nurse so it’s been available to me for some time).

I was starting to feel a little concerned despite myself. However just over fifty so had an appointment and actually had it yesterday!

I'm just relieved now tbh.

VaVaGloom · 07/04/2021 10:40

That's really interesting @IloveSooty424 as there was a big hoo-hah that they said not to extend the roll-out of first vaccines to under 50's but obviously they don't want vaccines going to waste either.

I do understand your reservations this week - it's not as though it's Bob down the Nag's Head in his tinfoil hat casting doubt on it - it's medical regulators reviewing the evidence. You are right Johnson's track record does not inspire confidence! On balance the benefits of vaccination do seem to outweigh the risks though. Hopefully there will be reassuring news in the next couple of days from the scientists.

Mrs Fezziwig - Yes I have reported on yellow card.
