Massively regretting the Oxford vaccine

I’m 30, obese and have Lipodemia which can cause blood clots in legs.

I had the jab start of last month, the last week Iv had abit of a tight chest and I can’t really breath in deeply, it hurts and makes me panic Abit.

I’m really worried 😔 my dad has had a stroke due to a blood clot in his leg.

I’m due my second soon and I really don’t want to have it!

Honestly I think more people will be prone to DVTs from sitting on their arses watching Netflix for the whole of lockdown (like me), than having the vaccine.

The risks of the vaccine need to be viewed in context.

Your risk of dying in childbirth in the UK: 1 in 10,000

Your risk of being struck by lightning: 1 in 10 million.

Your risk of developing cancer in your lifetime: 1 in 2.

Your risk of getting a blood clot in your brain following COVID vaccination: somewhere between 30 in 2 million (Europe) or 30 in 17 million in the U.K. so far. And not all of them died.

That’s not too far off from being struck by lightning.

The risk to you of contracting covid is far higher. Second what others have said that you’re suffering from anxiety. Try some self-help for that, and get your 2nd jab. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

@AnneLovesGilbert

Have you ever taken the contraceptive pill?
Or flown longhaul?
CottonBudd · 07/04/2021 00:18

To paraphrase a tweet I read today:
If you are currently being offered a dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, your chances of remaining alive and well will go up if you take the vaccine and will go down if you don’t.

anyoldtime · 07/04/2021 00:36

You are now past the at risk period for clots related to the vaccination.

You can't state this as fact. There haven't been cases SO FAR with clots after 20 days but this is an evolving issue.
I'm on day 25 post vaccination and have spent the day in hospital getting blood tests for unresolved post vaccine related issues. It was made very clear to me that the hospital can test got what they know but the problem is they don't know what else they could or should be checking for.

olympicsrock · 07/04/2021 00:38

Lipoedema doesn’t increase your risk of DVT - obesity does though.... Vascular surgeon ....

Your risk of DVT/ thrombotic event would be highest if you caught covid .
I would have the Vaccine.

fiendfyre · 07/04/2021 07:38

I'm really sorry you're feeling this way, OP. It must feel frightening and overwhelming and that's perfectly understandable.

Give your GP a call. Speaking to a medical person might give you the reassurance and comfort you need.

I hope you feel better and calmer soon. 💛

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 07/04/2021 13:41

Sorry I should have said, Iv already had covid.

I’m currently dieting to lose weight but very rarely lose anything from my legs, which causes exercise to be painful.

@Newstaronhorizon

Lose some weight and adopt a healthy way of life, then your chances of living a long and happy life will increase as a result and it will decrease your anxiety so win win. Let the second jab be the start of new beginnings for you. Good luck! Smile

I think a lot of people are being presumptive that its anxiety. I had the first dose 3 weeks ago..... I have tightness in my chest. I felt like this after I had covid too.

I dont think people should dismiss reactions to the vaccine any time after. My husband has been signed off work for a month with long covid type reaction to the vaccine.

To be clear, I am an extremely healthy 40 year old who exercises daily. There is so little being said about these more extreme and medium term side effects of the vaccines. The NHS and people are worried that speaking out will deter people from getting the vaccine.

I would hope the OP gets tested by the hospital to rule out clots as my husband did. Don't assume its anxiety you have had a small amount of a little understood virus put inside you for the greater good. Im afraid that the vaccine has been rushed (for good reason) but that there are some wider effects past 2 days the nhs suggest.

I know its not in my head so please dont suggest its anxiety. Ive accepted its vaccine related and it will pass as the virus did.

As it goes, I wish I hadn't had the vaccine, thats my personal opinion and not advice to anyone.

Sorry you are feeling worried. I haven't really got everything to add other than you should be past any officially stated risk period. Obviously if you have any health worries talk to your GP straight away.

In the mean time we are getting more information out of India that shows how well AZ and the Indian versions of AZ are doing there. These show that at least you won't have to be too anxious about getting covid. This is one good bit of early data now out.

The Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi said on Saturday on the basis of an observational study that 97.38 per cent of those vaccinated were protected from the COVID-19 infection and the chances of hospitalisation after the vaccination are 0.06 per cent.
