Normality hinges on rapid testing

On the BBC Hancock is saying that normality hinges on rapid testing for everyone. How long is this going to be for? I don’t mind testing for a month or two but I’m not doing it long term. Weren’t the vaccines supposed to be getting us back to normality?
@Iveforgotten I hope not. It really is a disaster. From tomorrow they’ve announced it’s also compulsory for hairdressers and when they open restaurants (possibly next month). It’s a shambles. People are put off going anywhere.
I could just about tolerate it for a haircut. Every time I needed to buy some new socks or whatever, no thanks. Sounds very dystopian.

Extinction Rebellion. Calling Extinction Rebellion..................

MercyBooth · 05/04/2021 23:28

Wonder what the reaction to that would be if a couple of thousand women shaved off all their hair.

Not all protests happen on the street!

If people accept this new testing regime, this will never end. However you put this. If you do not have symptoms, don't get tested. Monetary things aside (lots invested, money wasted), it's now about the control over the population. Conditioning, so that 3-4 months down the line the masses do what THEY are told to do. THEY are almost there... Just saying

Ohnomoreno · 06/04/2021 00:20

I'm not doing it.

Pharmacies are starting to distribute the LFT's now, it's a new service and can't see it going away anytime soon.

MercyBooth · 06/04/2021 01:42

Weird. There is a post by a Sophie Giroux showing up on my watch list on this thread but i click on it and it doesnt exist.

The 'route to normal' is through keeping cases as low as is manageable. I don't understand why the government won't listen to all the countries managing this better.

The UK is going to be trudging through covid, testing, isolating, etc. soup for years at this rate.

It is depressing how badly the government have handled this.

Racoonworld · 06/04/2021 07:51

@EileenGC

until the June 21st reopening, but then that’s it for anything Covid related for me.

You might need to readjust your expectations. Covid won’t magically disappear on the 21st of June!

I know it won’t magically disappear, but it’s not going to disappear any time. Once restrictions are gone in June I’ll just get on with living my life as normally as I can and won’t be doing or thinking about any voluntary covid things from then on. Definitely won’t be testing like this. I’ll have had my two vaccines for the covid passport and that’s enough.

It doesn't bother me. I'm happy to carry on for the next year if it contains outbreaks.

Yes, I'm sure one of their Tory mates has the contract but we knew they had no morals anyway.

VaVaGloom · 06/04/2021 09:29

Pre term time and during term time I would do it IF schools stay open. They are going to crucify some businesses if they all require tests though - as someone above says I’m not testing to nip out for socks, I’ll order online (or buy at supermarkets as essential retailer). Small independent shops would really suffer. Likewise, once cinemas reopen it would completely take the pleasure out - would much rather distance and wear masks than test all family.

It will reduce contacts and help contain Covid but definitely damage the economic recovery. Weren’t we told cases aren’t the issue it’s hospitalisation and the NHS being overwhelmed. If they are studying results of pcrs and identifying pockets of cases - ‘whack a mole’ why should areas without cases have to do continuous lateral asymptomatic testing??

BoobsOnTheMoon · 06/04/2021 09:32

I was under the impression that you shouldn't test again after a positive covid test for 90 days because if the risk of false positives due to remaining virus even after you weren't infectious.

So how will that work? If you've had a positive test and isolated for the correct time, will you be exempted from further rapid testing for 90 days?

uglyallday · 06/04/2021 09:36

There is no way I am regularly testing. I have had Covid and had a vaccine and never go out anywhere! Fuck that for a game of soldiers. Grin
