Chances of infecting my family

I have vulnerable family including my dad who live abroad.

I have been vaccinated and by the time we are allowed to travel, I’ll have had both doses. I have a 13 month old who obviously hasn’t been vaccinated and won’t be wearing a mask on the flight over.

I would like to visit them as half of my family haven’t met the baby, but I’m so worried that I’ll get covid along the way and take it to my family.

Some of them are refusing the vaccine, but my father has been vaccinated.

Does this seem low risk? I can’t quarantine from them as I don’t have the holiday allowance from work to be able to take such a long break.

You don't say how old you are, but I'm assuming under 50?

Vaccines reduce the risk of a person transmitting the virus even if they catch it - an Israeli estimate for the risk reduction is something like 80%.

If your dad has been vaccinated, HIS risk is also much lower now.

Self-isolation before travel would help, but doesn't remove the chance of catching it during travel, although the measures being taken these days have reduced that with everyone being tested etc.

So the simple answer is yes it's low risk :)

@bookworm1632 Thanks! I’m 32.

I did think that doing a test upon arrival could help but my real concern is catching it on the flight and carrying it over that way; especially as baby has no protection. A test upon arrival wouldn’t detect that.

Can’t you stay in self catering accommodation near your family and only see them outdoors, thus minimising the risk? It’s what I’m planning on doing when/if allowed to travel to see my parents abroad.

@Schulte We could I suppose. I just know they’ll all want to hold baby and it’ll be difficult stopping him from going over to them etc
