Is it legal for my friend to take my 3yo to the park with her 3yo because I'm ill?

I'm prostrated in bed with first trimester awfulness and DH has been doing everything but he really needs a break from childcare and housework to do some actual work. We have a friend with a lovely 3yo and I suggested we ask her to take them both to the park one morning - it's just at the other end of the road, they'd pick DS up, walk down, run around the playground, walk back.

DH says it's illegal because it's a playdate and they won't socially distance. Is it illegal? I know various rules have changed recently with the roadmap and I'm so knackered I hardly know which way my head's screwed on. I thought it would be OK because they're both under 5 but maybe I'm totally wrong on this. It's up to DH ultimately because the break would be for him, but I'd love to be able to tell him it's legal and all fine.

I have no idea if it’s legal to be honest but no one I know (even quite covid anxious friends) make their small children social distance. I’d do it in your shoes. Hope it eases off for you soon OP 🤞

Meeting outside in groups of up to six people or two households is allowed. Sounds perfectly fine to me.

OnlyToWin · 04/04/2021 14:41

Young children can’t really be expected to social distance and this is accepted.

TwigTheWonderKid · 04/04/2021 14:44

Two households allowed and I don't think even the strictest rule followers would truly expect 3 year olds to socially distance from each other but I guess the only thing would be whether your friend is happy to get close to your child.

Floralnomad · 04/04/2021 14:45

Who cares , you are ill and someone is offering to take your child to the park if your husband took him to the park he would still go off and mingle with the other children so what difference does it make who takes him .

AgentProvocateur · 04/04/2021 14:46

Who cares? You’re ill!!

HolmeH · 04/04/2021 14:53

Who cares! Give yourselves a break! I had HG in my last pregnancy & frankly would have needed to break every rule as I couldn’t get off the sofa without vomiting. We relied on a great deal of help & support.

Let your kid have a nice time & you guys put your feet up and have a break!

You are allowed a childcare bubble anyway if you don't have one so friend can be it

IrenetheQuaint · 04/04/2021 14:55

If you're in England this has been legal throughout this lockdown.

jessstan2 · 04/04/2021 15:00

If your friend is agreeable, go for it!

PuppyMonkey · 04/04/2021 15:09

Surely this is essential childcare reasons isn’t it? Been able to carry on with that all along.

But yeah if you’re still worried, it’s just the rule of six outdoors thing.

AnyFucker · 04/04/2021 15:14

I have no idea but you should just do it

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/04/2021 15:16

It's small kids and 2 households. All within the guidelines. Wave them goodbye and have a rest!

MoonfacedMilksop · 04/04/2021 15:18

No one is going to notice or care.

JustSleepAlready · 04/04/2021 15:25

Perfectly legal. Also, if I’m uk, kids under 12 can socialise ( I think. I’m getting a bit confused tbh).

In Scotland children under 12 don’t have to social distance. I think that’s just Scotland though.
GameSetMatch · 04/04/2021 15:43

It’s no different than your child playing with another child at the park really so I’d go for it!

poppycat10 · 04/04/2021 15:43

As a pp said, you can have 6 people or two households/household bubbles outside in England.

PerspicaciousGreen · 04/04/2021 15:51

Thanks all. I will put it to DH that he IBVVVVVVU!
