Feeling bad

My daughter has been coldy for last couple of days. No temp or cough. Today she's seemed a little worse. Has been clearing throat a lot and v stuffed up. I took her temp and it was 38. I just thought oh dear will take later, and took it later and it was up for her, but not a temp. Now I'm reflecting I'm thinking I suppose really I should have taken her one off temp seriously and got her tested? I'm thinking if it's up tomorrow I definitely will. I'm very "the rules" but I suppose the "it won't happen to us" kicked in. Still find it hard to believe it's anything but a cold. But realising now I must make sure. Its so strange. I find I worry about it quite a lot, but when confronted with a possible symptom I assume it's definitely not that 🤔😕 x

Yes she should have had a test. Get one booked and make sure you isolate until you get the results.

We definitely will x

You probably should test OP but I know what you mean. It’s hard to judge with young children, there are times I’ve pondering testing & decided either before or against. My eldest has cough dominated asthma & it’s been a mine field with covid & winter germs. I’ve used my judgement a lot of the time, her asthma cough is triggered by being active outdoors in the cold, so if that happens & it completely stops indoors, I haven’t tested. Similarly, nighttime coughing only has been something that’s plagued us since she was a baby. Again, her coughs vanishes in the daytime or if she sits up for a few minutes in the nighttime.

Any other cough, I have tested. Poor thing is terrified of the test, she cries hysterically so I doubt I ever get a decent swab anyway 😫

I wouldn't test for a one off temperature. Thermometers can error. If its normal in the morning I wouldn't test.

Sure;y if you think it's a thermometer issue, you retest in an hour not several hours later.

Fwiw when I had covid my temperature never went above 38, a]was only raised for about an hour or so, and my cough was mainly a clearing my throat type cough.

Covid in children can often appear like a cold.

If it's only been 2 or 3 days I would try and get her tested today. School need to know if she is positive ASAP, as do you.

As your child has had 2 symptoms you all need to be isolating for 10 days from the onset of symptoms as well.

HSHorror · 03/04/2021 10:29

I doubt it would be thermometer error when testing because they feel hot to you.
Natural body temps are higher in the evening. So testing again in the morning doesnt mean they arent or werent ill.
My dc had ongoing temps and you could never tell if it had gone until it didnt go really high in the evening.

Scottishskifun · 03/04/2021 10:33

It's worth getting a test.
My DS had only a slight runny nose and turned out he was positive and all of us were I have since been in bed with covid for 10 days

Torvean · 05/04/2021 03:19

The high temperature should have been checked again after 30 minutes. If its continuously over 37.8 then it is a symptoms.
Nothing else the OP said was signs of Covid.
Clearing your throat and a blocked nose are not signs.
