To be concerned about the vaccine with my family history?

I know there will be a lot of responses telling me I'm ridiculous and to have the vaccine, save the country etc etc but hear me out...

Both parents have/had a blood clot type disorder. There have been other blood related illnesses in the family over the years.

My father has had DVT and heart stents (I know the stents aren't due to clotting but they've meant he has blood thinners)

My mother died very suddenly from a brain haemorrhage.

I am getting very worried about having the vaccine in case I am susceptible to blood clots?

Please be kind, this isn't AIBU and I'm genuinely trying myself in knots over this.

@canigooutyet

Don't feel socially pressured either. There are people out there who genuinely have been advised against it by their medical team for a multitude of reasons.

And as for the passport that keeps getting thrown around imo until the clinical trials have finished these shouldn't be imposed on us to live our daily lives. This is probably down to I'm medically advised against having the vaccination.

And for full disclosure I have long cv including clots. Never mind pre existing low platelet counts.

I'm so sorry you have long CV. Flowers

Yes there is a lot of social pressure on having the vaccine, which I personally think is wrong for the reasons you've said !

Nobody should be lynching you for being concerned and trying to find the information to help you make the right decision for you OP!
Is it worth a call to your GP? They may be able to reassure you or alternatively ensure you end up on the list for the vaccine that is most suited to you. Worth a try??

Thanks! I think I'm going to pluck up the courage to ring and ask next week after the bank holiday Smile

Good luck OP! My GP has been really helpful through all this. And of course knows my medical history so can give me specific advice.

Thank you it'snotme. I am weirdly (for some) at ease with it because it's not the first time I have been left with long term effects of something else when I've been ill. And I doubt it will be the last time either. It's devastating of course and harder for loved ones as well.

It must be incredibly hard to be faced with this type of decision and which risk you are going to take. Only you and nhs/private health know your history not us randoms.

I have had some pressure from friends and told they won't be meeting me. Some have been told where to go. Who needs abusive judgemental tossers?

Do you have low platelets normally? Any Heparin induced thrombosis history? It's incredibly rare with far higher risks of clots if you catch covid, but talk with a GP if you fit the specific risk factors.

JanewaysBun · 02/04/2021 23:27

I have a blood clotting disorder and have historically been advised against medicine that "could" increase clotting risks. When I've had GA and ops the team have always taken steps to mitigate it.

I'm hoping that I can have Pfizer when the time comes!

@ItsNotMeOfficer Someone posted this link on another thread. I understand it's from a health authority in Ontario. They say that the process by which more common blood clots form is different from the process involved in relation to the rare type of clot that people are concerned about with the AZ vaccine.
