When does stay local end?

I feel like I've read the road map out of lockdown so many times but I'm not getting it! I've just skimmed over the latest publication and I can't really see it...

I know we are allowed to go out and meet one household now in a park, etc. Are we still having to stay in our local area? My sister lives 1.5 hours away and I want to go and take the kids to play in her garden over Easter. I'm scared of getting fined? Help!

My local council website says this:

Keep the number of journeys to a minimum and stay within your local area

But the actual government website doesn't mention it I don't think...

It's not law now it's guidance so you won't be fined.

GravityFalls · 01/04/2021 14:07

You can do this now, and there’s absolutely no chance you’d even get questioned, let alone fined.

SummerHouse · 01/04/2021 14:12

There is no 'stay local' I personally think think it was manufactured by the media and reiterated by some local police / councils.

In reality you can go as far as you like but not stay overnight.

ILookAtTheFloor · 01/04/2021 15:12

Matt Hancock said he's going to travel from London to his Suffolk constituency to visit friends which I reckon is about 1.5 hours, so if it's alright for him it's alright for you!

emmathedilemma · 01/04/2021 15:16

Depends where you live. Scotland is scheduled for the 26th April, until then it's Stay Local which means within your local authority area.

Was at hamsterley forest, about an hour from us yesterday
Passed several police cars in the forest itself
No on was asking where we were from
Fabulous day out
Plenty there. Not too crowded . No litter.

transformandriseup · 01/04/2021 15:30

I think now it's not law you will be fine.

I could technically drive for 1.5 hours and still be in the same county so I am not sure if that would count as local or not.

guiltynetter · 01/04/2021 15:39

I'm in Manchester area. So is it definitely okay to travel around now? What about if I wanted to take my kids to the beach?? I hate that I have to feel like this :-/

At a local beauty spot near to me yesterday there was a police car driving round and it made me think they were looking at number plates? As that what they were doing previously and fining people who had come from too far.

I work in a neighbouring county in a tourist town and therefore have driven a popular route for tourists twice a day, every work day, and never seen a single police car stopping or checking anyone. I think it’s been a super rare occurrence that just gets a lot of press when it happens. Al throughout this lockdown we’ve driven to places to walk - countryside but still maybe 15 miles away, and I’ve never felt bad about it.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 01/04/2021 16:00

As others have said, it is only guidance. Travel as far as you want.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 01/04/2021 16:02

I will add, I have been in and out of Scotland numerous times since just after Christmas and haven't been stopped once (travelling from Lancashire). I haven't even seen a single police car the whole journey there or back! I suppose it can be different dependent on where you are in the country....

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2021 16:39

In England you can travel. I'm going to visit my grandparents next week. It's a 4.5 your round trip. I definitely wouldn't do that kind of day trip to sit and shiver in anyone else's garden but they're in their 90s so every opportunity is potentially the last opportunity and I take every chance I can.

Hope you enjoy seeing them Smile

LIZS · 01/04/2021 17:58

Not to Wales or Scotland. Stay Local has relaxed but no overnight stays yet and reasonable journeys for exercise.

Watsername · 01/04/2021 18:01

I thought it was Stay Local until 12th April.

LadyCatStark · 01/04/2021 18:02

Go and enjoy yourselves!

FellWanderer · 01/04/2021 18:27

We drove 1.5 hours to the lakes today and had an amazing time. As above, Matt Hancock said he was travelling from London to Suffolk on the Easter weekend so go for it!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 01/04/2021 18:54

Judging by the amount of cars bombing through the new forest today towards the seaside I would say a lot of people don't understand Stay Local

Rose5678 · 01/04/2021 19:03

The Stay at Home order ended on 29 March in England according to the gov website www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-sets-out-roadmap-to-cautiously-ease-lockdown-restrictions

TimeForLunch · 01/04/2021 19:17

I've been travelling here there and everywhere during lockdown by car/bus/tube (mostly for permitted reasons) and not been questioned once. Seriously, nothing will happen, even if it wasn't "allowed" which it is!

SummerHouse · 01/04/2021 19:42

There is no stay local guidance.
There is no stay local guidance.

Katie517 · 01/04/2021 21:42

People weren’t even staying local in the full lockdown let alone now, I can’t believe people thought there was a 5 mile from your house rule in England! It takes me about 7-10 miles to get to the nearest town.

You can travel where ever you want in England as long as you don’t stay overnight. I really wish people would stop obsessing over the rules (especially people making up new stricter rules that don’t exist) and just use their own initiative and common sense!
