Can we travel 70 miles to visit parents now? Or can we only visit people if they live locally ?(Would that be about 10 miles? )Thankyou.

It just says minimise travel where possible, and you shouldn’t stay overnight. If you are in Scotland though I think it is stay local

CovidCorvid · 31/03/2021 09:56

Matt Hancock said go as far as you like as long as not stopping overnight.

diwrnachoflleyn · 31/03/2021 10:00

Sure, go for it! Our council is huge, hundreds of miles, local.

I don't let bloody Matt Hancock govern what I do in my private life so I'd stay overnight if everyone was in agreement.

Unless you're imprisoned in Scotland, where Saint Nicola of Covid will not allow you out of your local council area until 26th April.

Happy fucking Easter.

I'm really glad we never had that council area rule in England - not so bad if they mean county council (excluding Rutland) but not so great if they mean district council (though you can be on a county border - I'm near 3 - or 4 if you count unitary authorities). And who knew that covid respected county or district borders and knows only to get you when you cross them?

Have the Scottish police been actually enforcing it?

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 31/03/2021 18:59

If you don't stay overnight and visit them in the garden (or say their local park), yes. In England, or in Wales if you travel within Wales.

Seaside time.

Raspberry that made me laugh. I'm an escaped Scot who came over Hadrian's Wall. At least I've got a bit more freedom here but sadly I cant visit my family yet

You hear anecdotal stories about people being arrested leaving Fife on their way to Ikea in Edinburgh. But in general, no it's not being enforced as it's so bloody ridiculous.

I live less than 5 minutes drive from three other council areas. I am on the outskirts of Glasgow, in what is basically a commuter suburb. There are thousands of people travelling into the city every day for essential shopping, work, medical appointments. I haven't seen any police at all.

I suppose if we had a heatwave and there were all of a sudden thousands of people crowding into the car park at Loch Lomond they might have a word. But they mostly have better things to do.
