Household members of immunosuppressed prioritised

Just seen this in the news, might be of use to others

Those who live with someone who has a weakened immune system are to be prioritised for coronavirus vaccines.

It is hoped that the move will help to limit infections in immunosuppressed adults, such as those with blood cancer, HIV or patients receiving chemotherapy, who are less able to fight infections naturally.

Independent experts on the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said that people over the age of 16 who are living with an adult with a weakened immune system should be prioritised for their vaccine.

@Rillington I called my GP and they said to call 119 and that they couldn't and wouldn't help us :/

@WolfMother326 I've been trying to get my DC done for three weeks. The systems are not working in the right way. Your DH will probably get it by age before you can get him done as you are immunosuppressed. There is a shortage of vaccines especially the Pfizer. Keep trying as he should be entitled to it.

My ed has her appointment for her vaccination this Saturday. I'm trying to get mine (I'm over 45 so in the age bracket being called up now) at the same time as it's being done in a lovely place, but I suspect I shall have to have it done at another venue which is not as nice. Still, beggars can't be choosers and a vaccine is a vaccine no matter the location.

Bumping to see if anyone has got anywhere with this - still no letter from the GP here and no response to my email asking about jabs for household members

Butterflytown · 17/05/2021 23:04

My husband got his vaccine 5 weeks ago because of me being immunocompromised. I had to call/ email the Practice manager at the Gp a couple of times and send them the info to show he qualified. He had to be designated as my carer in order for them to be able to book it ( I was clear to them that he isn’t my carer but it was the only way ‘the system’ would let them book apparently. I’d give 119 a call as they might now be able to book that group in (they couldn’t 6 week ago though). It’s such a small number of people that qualify which makes it even more frustrating. Maybe request a telephone appointment with your GP so at least you know someone is hearing you and it’s not just being lost in the email ether? Good luck!

DH had received letter a few days ago saying his adult household contacts could have a jab. This is 5 weeks after I had the jab by just booking and taking all the evidence I had with me of living with him and of his immunosuppression. If you can, book a slot and take evidence. The approach they take at the vac centre is to find valid reasons to give you the jab, not to turn you away.

My DH finally got the letter from the GP saying I could book about two weeks ago. I’d already had the jab by then because of my age. What I’d like to know is if we household members are now in group 6 for future jabs, boosters and for bringing our second jab forward! I understood that was the case but suspect this hasn’t been fed into the national booking system yet.

Finally spoke to someone at the GP - they have failed to code the ECV person so now they have to speak to the GP - first telephone appt is in 3 weeks time

Jeeeez! That is appalling. Poor you. And you can’t book via the National system?
