Not sure what to do about the vaccine

I am 40, and had my baby (by emergency c section) in December.

I have no health conditions and am very fit and well normally. I am overweight but losing it and expect to be a healthy BMI by July, as a rough estimation.

I would like another baby. Since ds was a c section this would involve waiting a year so will be 42 at the youngest when I have another.

I’m worried about the vaccination because of wanting to TTC. I’m not worried about me health wise but obviously don’t want to get it and infect somebody else.

WWYD?

If you're not TTC for a couple of years you can have the vaccination this year without worrying, can't you?

If it helps, the US and Israel are vaccinating pregnant women because Covid is a risk in the late stages of pregnancy, so I would absolutely want the vaccine before TTC.

whatswithtodaytoday · 29/03/2021 12:10

Sorry, just realised I mis-read and you're waiting a year to TTC... same applies, anyway.

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:12

Because I keep reading that may impact fertility and obviously at my age we may have problems anyway.

Viviennemary · 29/03/2021 12:13

I might think twice if I was actually pregnant. But if not go ahead with vaccine

FinallyFluid · 29/03/2021 12:14

Why don't you see if you can try on a ventilator mask and see if that works for you.

bobbiester · 29/03/2021 12:15

You have indicated that you currently do not have a healthy BMI. Consequently having the vaccine would be a very good idea.

There is no evidence the vaccine affects fertility. But being in ill with COVID-19 certainly could.

JorisBonson · 29/03/2021 12:15

Where are you reading this?

RainingZen · 29/03/2021 12:18

What affects your fertility and the likelihood of having a healthy pregnancy and child, is your high BMI and your age. Get yourself fit and healthy, then think about conceiving. The vaccination really isn't going to be a bigger issue for you than the problems you already have. PS I haven't seen any reliable data that any of the vaccines reduce your fertility.

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:19

@FinallyFluid

Why don't you see if you can try on a ventilator mask and see if that works for you.
Ah so I should have no concerns whatsoever about a very new vaccine because of a disease that’s unlikely to impact me at all?

BIWI · 29/03/2021 12:20

Don't know what you've been reading @daisiesanddaffodils, but why not have a read of this from the British Medical Journal.

BIWI · 29/03/2021 12:20

The guidance refutes any link between the vaccines and fertility. “There is absolutely no evidence, and no theoretical reason, that any of the vaccines can affect the fertility of women or men,” it says. People of reproductive age should get a covid-19 vaccine when they receive their invitation, including people who are trying to have a baby or thinking about having a baby in the future, the guidance says

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:20

Raining

From my Op.

Since ds was a c section this would involve waiting a year

i am overweight but losing it and expect to be a healthy BMI by July

Therefore a healthy BMI by December 2021. When we’d be thinking about TTC.

It is in my OP.

I would listen to actual health professionals rather than nutters on the internet.

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:21

Yes biwi thank you

However that’s not quite the full picture is it?

bobbiester · 29/03/2021 12:21

@daisiesanddaffodils - Ah so I should have no concerns whatsoever about a very new vaccine because of a disease that’s unlikely to impact me at all?

Here we go - out come the anti-vaxxer tropes. Could see where this was going from the first posting. You're not really "not sure" are you?

You've said you have an unhealthy BMI - you are at risk from COVID-19 - and even if you weren't - you could still give it to other people.

JorisBonson · 29/03/2021 12:22

What is the full picture @daisiesanddaffodils?

Tankflybosswalkjam · 29/03/2021 12:22

How is it not quite the full picture??

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:23

FGS, I’m not an anti vaxxer! Or I wouldn’t even be contemplating it!

However there is a huge grey space between ‘anti vaxxer’ and ‘a bit concerned about this very new vaccine which seems to impact women my age most of all’ isn’t there?

I mean - ‘get all vaccines, any vaccines’ is just an extreme a stance as ‘get none.’

However I don’t think the thread is going to be very helpful so I’ll leave it at that.

OP posts:
daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:24

It’s not the full picture because of the blood clots that have been reported by women in their 40s I believe.

But as I say I’ll leave it there (Google if you want a link, I’m wrestling a 3 month old!)

BIWI · 29/03/2021 12:24

@daisiesanddaffodils

Yes biwi thank you

However that’s not quite the full picture is it?

@daisiesanddaffodils how is it not the full picture?

What do you mean? What do you think they aren't saying that's concerning you?

daisiesanddaffodils · 29/03/2021 12:24

Thank you biwi your information was very helpful

OP posts:
bluejelly · 29/03/2021 12:25

Try not to worry OP, the vaccines are incredibly safe and don't affect fertility. Best of luck with it all Thanks

Katie517 · 29/03/2021 12:25

@daisiesanddaffodils sorry you are getting so much abuse for asking a very valid question and rightfully having concerns due to the new nature of the vaccine.

I am of the same mindset as you, had a baby in Summer will want another in a couple of years time, am 32 with no precious fertility issues but it has crossed my mind. It won’t be our turn for a while so hopefully there will be some more reassuring data before it is, other friends my age have had similar concerns so your point is very valid.

@daisiesanddaffodils

Yes biwi thank you

However that’s not quite the full picture is it?

BIWI kindly posted the information for you. What exactly do you think is missing?

There is NO credible link to fertility issues with the vaccine.

The vaccine is in your body a very short amount of time. Your body generates the immune response to give you immunity.

Stop scaremongering or spell out what your actual source is for your misinformation.
