Nausea after AstraZeneca vaccine?

ColaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2021 22:30

Anyone else had this?

I had AZ vaccine (thank you, science!) on Friday morning. Nine hours later I got a fever, freezing with chattering teeth, nausea and aches. Went to bed and slept till 1:30pm the next day (freaky!) though briefly woke at 7 for more paracetamol. Felt rubbish with a temperature and nausea when I woke up. Eating made no difference either way.

Today I’m much better - fever and aches pretty much gone. Very sore arm and a bit of boob pain in that same side but constant really horrid nausea. It feels like when I was in early pregnancy (I’m definitely not). Anyone had this and how long did it take to go? It’s mild but unpleasant.

For the record, I’m very grateful to have the vaccine, think the vaccine centre was a jaw-dropping experience in efficiency and kindness and am so happy to think that in a few weeks I should be safe from this bastard virus.

Yes, I had as you described. It lasted about 48 hours and I was tired for a couple more days after that. My arm is still tender over a week later but nowhere near as sore as it was.

Tanfastic · 28/03/2021 22:38

Yes I had exactly as you describe. I didn't know anybody who'd had the vaccine personally when I had mine (NHS worker) so when I woke up feeling sick I first thought it was something I'd eaten.

I now realise it was a symptom but I felt much better after a day or two. I had my second vaccine on Friday and was fine.

ColaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2021 22:40

48 hours from onset of symptoms or from when you had the vaccine? I’m about 48 hours from symptoms now and still feel a bit rough. I don’t feel like eating (which is fine, I’ve got plenty of fat reserves!) but if I eat it doesn’t make it any worse.

@Tanfastic Thank you. Glad your second one was ok!

Yes I had the exact same. Felt so sick all night but couldn't be sick. It was horrible. Especially alongside the shivering, feeling freezing cold. I felt so rough. But was fine after 24hrs xx

coronafiona · 28/03/2021 22:56

I had it two days ago and have been vomiting all day today. It's scary to think how this would be if it was the virus. I'm hoping tomorrow is better.

ColaHubbaBubba · 29/03/2021 00:49

So sorry you’ve been vomiting.

But yes, for me it has been a reminder that viral illness is really bloody unpleasant and that’s without - touch wood - any sort of breathing difficulties, which must be terrifying. I had flu three years ago and was so terribly unwell it was awful. And we all know Covid ain’t flu. So if I can avoid Covid a while longer and let these antibodies do their thing, I’ll be extremely grateful, even if it comes with a while longer of feeling yucky.

My ex husband had his on Thursday, yesterday he said his head was sweating, felt sick and a slight headache, but felt ok with it.

Scarby9 · 29/03/2021 01:34

Nausea is listed as one of the '1 in 10' side-effects on the information leaflet given when you have the A-Z vaccine.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 29/03/2021 02:35

I had the Moderna vaccine and felt nauseous starting about 24 hours later, for about 12 hours. I was able to sleep through it fortunately. Couldn’t eat or do much else.

Holothane · 29/03/2021 02:47

I felt sick for a couple of days tired too had on Thursday felt much better by the Sunday.

coronafiona · 29/03/2021 09:27

I'm a bit better today- how's everyone else? Still aching and a headache but egg on toast has stayed down so far!! Grin

lorn195 · 29/03/2021 09:30

Yes I suffered from nausea after mine. It started at 3 in the morning and lasted until lunchtime, it felt I was suffering from a bad bout of morning sickness. Thankfully I had no other side effects.

JustDanceAddict · 29/03/2021 09:31

Yes! Literally had mine yesterday and woke in night feeling a bit sick and have that ‘feeling’ now but at a low level (can still eat). My injection site is more tender too.

ColaHubbaBubba · 29/03/2021 12:16

Still low level nausea here, 72 hours on. Sore arm too but other symptoms resolved so hopefully this will go soon too.

I didn't have any side effects but was worried because of all the thousands of posts on here from people who did

If you look back maybe 3 or 4 weeks there were lots of threads of people's experiences.

QuentininQuarantino · 29/03/2021 12:35

I had mine on Wednesday evening and would describe it like a hangover. The nausea subsided by Friday but I was still unable to do much on Saturday. On Sunday I felt perfect and ran 10k.

Feel so lucky to have had it despite all of that!

TickyTok · 29/03/2021 12:42

Interesting that you said it was like early pregnancy! I had Pfizer and felt exactly that the day after. Nothing extreme but a sort of underlying fatigue and queasiness that came and went. Though luckily it only lasted a few hours, which was a thousand fucking times better than the 24/7 relentlessness of a first trimester.
