Teen positive lateral flow test - I've had 1 jab - what next?

DD just tested positive so I've booked her in for a PCR test tomorrow.

I had my first vaccine nearly four weeks ago and DH a couple of weeks before that. What will happen to us?

(Not panicking, just interested tbh in case anyone else has been in this situation).

Following because I'm also interested in this! DH and DD (18) haven't been vaxxed but I've had my first and have decided if DS (7) brings it home from school that I'll be the one doing the majority of the care for him to minimize the risk to them.
I also saw that the CDC in America has said that people who have been vaccinated don't need to isolate after contact with a positive case.

You should be fine if over two weeks since vaccines! We're awaiting a result from dc PCR test... I’m only 10 days post vax so really hoping it's negative!

Unfortunately, it is three weeks.

According to Tim Spector (Zoe), quite a few people catch Covid two weeks after their vaccination (perhaps, thinking that the immunity has already kicked in). The number goes down drastically after 3 weeks.

There's a good chance the PCR will be negative. At our school we've had a few students with positive LF tests but all were then negative with PCR.

Thanks all. This is very reassuring reading. We did the test tonight not expecting anything and bang, two lines showing positive.

I had my jab over three weeks ago and husband about five weeks ago. We are both booked in for our second ones but not quite yet.

My colleague caught it 5 weeks after vaccination off her son, age 2, nursery outbreak. She felt fine, her husband who wasn't vaccinated was really rough.

@wintertravel1980 Good to know! Thanks.

First of all, it may be a false positive.
If it is positive then doesn't mean others will definitely catch it.

My teen had Covid in Nov. He kept himself to himself, own bathroom, food in room etc and none of the other three caught it (that we were aware of!)

Extremely unlikely that it was a false positive, as lateral flow tests have a false positive rate of less than 1%.

Thanks all, she is banished to her room (and she's fine about that!) and we're off for a PCR test early doors. What a pain this is.

Any news? My boss' child had a positive LFT Sunday night, so went to a PCR test centre first thing. It's come back negative, so seems false positives are at play.

scrivette · 29/03/2021 21:57

You may not necessarily catch it, DD had it in January and no one else caught it and DS has it now and we are towards the end of our isolation period and no one else seems to have caught it (yet!)

islockdownoveryet · 30/03/2021 23:15

My dh caught it off dd , my dh has been vaccinated. He’s been fine though just like a bad cold . It’s the isolation that’s the pain as done more than 10 days altogether. I’m keeping everything crossed I’ll be fine ( also vaccinated)
