Loophole for Visiting 2nd Homes Over Easter

SunshiningBetty · 27/03/2021 08:53

Apparently there is a loophole in the latest guidance that allows for visiting second homes after 31st March. Can anyone direct me to it please? Does it apply to second homes in Wales?

Anyone?

I would just go. You should be able to check a second home and make sure there are no burst pipes etc.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 27/03/2021 18:09

You can go to one in Wales if you live in Wales, but cannot go to Wales if you don't live there.

OP just wait until 12 April.

If your second home is used for holiday rentals you are allowed to conduct maintenance but you cannot stay overnight.

Just beach from the beach, family daily walk. I can assure you many have already packed up home and come here .. do as please everyone else seems to be. I'm actually dreading the Easter holidays here 😐

wakeupandshakeup · 27/03/2021 18:23

*just back from the beach ☺️

Buzzinwithbez · 27/03/2021 18:23

Freedom Monday the bit about not leaving home or being outside the home without a reasonable excuse is lifted.
Unless they add something to legislation that states you can't be away from home overnight (along with a none exhaustive list of exceptions) there's nothing to stop you.

Doyoumindfisithere · 27/03/2021 18:25

Could you not please wait?

Buzzinwithbez · 27/03/2021 18:25

That should say from Monday. Excellent slip up from autocorrect..

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/03/2021 18:29

We are going to go next sat, don’t see the difference with that and waiting a week if I’m being honest. Happy to all do a LFT then go.

SunshiningBetty · 27/03/2021 18:46

We do need to do some maintenance ready to rent out but there’s no way we can drive there, get it all done and come back in a day! Are we allowed to stay over? We are in England and the second home is in Wales

Technically you can't Cross the border into Wales. The rules are to protect communities. What makes you special enough to compromise everyone else's safety?

midgeswithnofingernails · 27/03/2021 18:57

No you are not allowed to stay over

I am not sure you are allowed to travel into Wales either

LetSophieGo · 27/03/2021 19:44

Hi OP, if you're popping into Wales for an overnight stay can you please pick me up en route so that I can visit my chum in Gwynedd?
The transport is terrible out there and I don't currently drive.
Cheers!

AlohaMolly · 27/03/2021 19:47

As quoted in the picture in my message OP the guidance explicitly states that you can enter wales to go to your home to maintain it but you cannot stay overnight.

SunshiningBetty · 27/03/2021 20:23

Because we have a booking for 13th April and we haven’t even seen the house for a year!!! Some of us rely on the income from lets.

Katie517 · 27/03/2021 20:51

Honestly what difference does it make if you stay over night or not, you are in the house and leave at 11.55pm and that’s fine but you stay over and leave at 7am the next morning and somehow that’s risky?!? Common sense for crying out loud!

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 28/03/2021 09:39

The 12th April date was announced a while ago (February?) so it was your choice to take a booking the following day. Your reason is not good enough, you should go on the 12th prepared for what is needed.

LadyCatStark · 28/03/2021 09:43

If you rent it out as a business does preparing the property for renting it out not count as work?

SunshiningBetty · 28/03/2021 10:12

Vey true! It’s all declared on the self assessment. Think we’ll head up there after this weekend!
OP posts:
Rosehip10 · 28/03/2021 10:23

@SunshiningBetty Someone has posted the the link that shows you are not allowed to stay overnight - why do you think you are so special that the rules don't apply to you?

emmathedilemma · 28/03/2021 10:26

What difference does it make if you stay overnight or not if you're in your own self contained property?!? There's no logic to some of these rules!
