Covid vaccine side effects with arthritis

Has anyone else been horrifically ill with the Oxford vaccine?

I have fibro, arthritis and bone grafts, fusion and other issues in my spine and pelvis. I couldn't open my eyes for 12 hours as the muscles around them were so painful and my whole body is agony. The fever won't go. Every bit of inflammation in my body is in a full flare, particularly in my spine. It's excruciating and feels like hell on earth every time I try to move.

How long does this last? Did you go back to normal pain levels after?

A lot of people have had really bad side effects with the AZ vaccs, the reported effects when people have the second dose are a lot less severe so don’t let it out you off getting the second dose.

The advice is if the fever lasts longer than 48 hours you should consider a Covid test. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

I only had inflammation in one place in my body and that's where it ached after the vaccine. Only for a day though. I think if you can keep resting and take pain killers you'll be through it in a day or two.
Keep telling yourself that it's better than catching Covid and have it ravage your body for 10 days+.

I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, spine and hip issues and was already in a flare when I had the vaccine yesterday. Just had an horrid night. Started with what I call fluey legs where I can’t keep them still. Cycled on to a bone chilling shaking, cold to the core. Now my head hurts so bad I can’t lift it off the pillow. And we have a room to decorate from top to bottom including moving a radiator and new flooring as furniture is being delivered Monday morning 😟

I'm glad to hear the second dose won't be as bad, as I was very worried about that.

I've spent a year being scared of catching Covid and i'm so relieved we have the option of a vaccine.

It's more like normal flu or very bad cold territory now, the agony has turned into bad muscle and joint pain and I can cope with that. The chills and burning are a bit less severe for a while when I take paracetamol now so at least there is a little respite. The headache won't go. I wasn't expecting this as they didn't mention any side effects when I told them my concerns and neither of my parents had side effects. I also have post viral fatigue and have been bedbound a lot with it so I was worried about this setting me back further. The arthritis is settling a bit already so i'm feeling more positive now.

How are you feeling clairethewitch?

Hello, I have RA and was surprisingly ok after my astrazenaca however they did tell me to miss my immunosuppressive medicine that week. Did they not tell you the same? I heard that it can make the reaction worse.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. There's a really supportive Facebook Group called Arthur's Place for folk with Arthritis and Fibro to discuss things like this too.

Glad you feel a little better today. It's been a horrible year for everyone especially those with chronic illness.

Are you on Methotrexate? I had that for a few years and everything made me ill. If you are on it and you have symptoms of fever you need to call NHS 24 as it's more serious on this medication. Horrible stuff, though it protects your joints.

I have RA. I had my vaccine in January and just a sore arm. I had a flare which started soon after and lasted five weeks but I put it down to coincidence. I wasn't told to skip any of my drugs? I couldn't skip steroids as that would make me very ill very quickly. My other DMARDs (HCQ and Sulphasalazine) stay in the system for 3 months so probably no point.
I also had an antibody test 5 weeks after my vaccine (as part of a research trial) and it was negative Sad.

How are you doing Nyfluff? I am ok today. Intent but short lived thankfully.

I have RA (I’m only on a DMARD though) and I had my vaccine yesterday (I’m a TA and local hub had spare for school staff).

I feel absolutely awful today. My arm is killing me which I expected but my entire body hurts.

I’ve also got the double whammy of having Covid at the start of Feb so I think my poor immune system has just gone into overdrive.
