School bubble closures

We managed one whole week of both primary school aged children being back in the classroom, before the bubbles started to burst and it was back to trying to work and home school/supervise children at the same time.

Each lockdown feels worse than the last. We were frantically clinging to the 8th March for our sanity. Now, because of timings with the year group closures and the Easter holidays, that date has jumped to 19th April.

Even once the holidays are over, chances seem high that the kids will be back in the classroom for just a few days, before another case is found and they'll be be sent back home again to isolate! So we can't even cling to that date in any hope.

From the media we hear: "Kids are back at school, parents rejoice!". While from our employers it's: "Now that the kids are back and parents have stopped slacking, we expect you to catch up on everything that's been delayed."

DH and I both have full time, high pressured jobs. Not key workers, but key enough for our employers to reject any form of furlough. No family or friends available nearby to assist.

Please tell me we're not alone in this situation? The only reason we're keeping our heads above water at all is that there are two of us in this together, and a lot of wine in the fridge. Wine My heart goes out to any single parent households in this boat.

I'm positively envious of your kids getting 1 week back. My son managed 2.5 days. He went back today for the grand total of 1 while school day before they break up for Easter. Since he's been off, another 2 of his friends classes in the same school have closed. And with the DFE saying Easter needs to continue into the Easter hols and beyond,I don't see an end to bubbles popping. This sent me on a massive depression spiral this week from which I've just emerged.

What I'm saying is,I sympathize with you

DC's school have been lucky. They had one bubble burst a couple of weeks ago in the Junior school, Y2 I think. Nothing in the Senior school at all. They broke up for Easter today so have got off quite lightly I think.

My children's primary schools haven't had any bubbles burst yet but lots of local primary and high schools have. I know it's coming just awaiting the dreaded text.

I think with all the mixing likely to go on over the holidays despite rules still in place it won’t be much of a firebreak over Easter and we may end up with more cases.

You poor thing OP - this isn't good for the kids either .. when does it end 😬

It's awful for kids and working parents.
I really think school and nursery staff should be prioritised for vaccination then there would be less disruption for the kids

How would that help though as they'd still have to isolate if any kids in their class test positive.

We have been lucky, DS has not had to isolate at all since returning in September.

If staff weren't at risk then they could stop the testing of pupils.
Isolation and lockdown should really only be to stop health services becoming overwhelmed.
In my opinion anyway.

Parents of school age children are at risk too, not just school staff.

I agree with you regarding lockdown but you can't just say vaccinate all school staff and stop testing children, that's just throwing all the parents under the bus!
