DD1 (20) will be starting a placement year at a Spanish uni in September, what do you think the chances are she will be 'fast tracked ' for her second vaccination?

As the title says she's off to Spain in September.
Assuming she will have had her first dose in the summer she likely won't be due her second before she leaves.
Will there be any chance she will get her second before she goes?
I know No one can answer definitively, just trying to plan ahead.

I don’t think ‘wanting to study abroad’ is a priority criterion. I think they’re being done in age order for first dose and then 12 weeks after.

Do you think she’ll have to have had both to enter Spain? It’s not like she’s at risk of getting ill with it and even if she were, one dose provides good protection

I know all the science but I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row.
This is just one of the umpteen queries that are swirling around my head at the moment.
I very much doubt it will be a pre-requisite to enter Spain as my Mum who's in her seventies is still waiting for her first jab in Spain.
Just motherly nerves about her moving away and wanting to dot the I's and cross the Tees

I'm hoping that the results for the one dose Johnson and Johnson will be good enough that they can use them as a single dose on students. Potentially an awful lot of them will be getting their first dose in a separate location to where they will be at the time for the second dose.

IF she has free time beforehand, you could try and get her work on bank or volunteer for a mass vacs centre. It might be a bit late but worth a try. This is how I got my teen vaccinated (she was on bank already).

minniemoocher · 25/03/2021 14:37

Close to zero, unless her university medical practice chooses to once vaccination for under 50's starts. My dd needs to travel with the military and even they can't be fast tracked!

Pyewackect · 25/03/2021 14:38

ZERO

ThePricklySheep · 25/03/2021 14:39

She might just be ok time wise? When in September is it?

If it’s the end, then end july is fine for the first jab.

Not answered your question there, sorry.

ThePricklySheep · 25/03/2021 14:40

Oh arse, I can’t count. It needs to be end June. She still might be ok?

drivinmecrazy · 25/03/2021 14:42

Unbelievable that they won't even track those in the forces. Particularly after how they were so vaccine happy during the first gulf war. DH was part of that contingent and he had an horrific reaction to his jab at the weekend, not sure they're unconnected but that's a conversation for another time Angry
Good thinking about the Johnson vaccine, I'd had the same thought a few weeks ago but it has slipped my mind.

DD is in exactly the same situation here. I did wonder if the Johnson vaccine would be around by then. Either way, this could affect a reasonable number of students if they get their place abroad.

OP, not sure if you've heard, but DD has been warned that unis abroad are cancelling places - it's such a mess. She did her course knowing she could apply for a year abroad at a particular uni. Spaces are limited and she got one of two places. Such a shame if they can't get that experience and gain different knowledge to other students which make them stand out (particularly as mine's on a niche course).

drivinmecrazy · 25/03/2021 15:28

Ifonly4 I know, it's so difficult to plan. DD was originally planning on going to Argentina but realised early on that wouldn't be an option. I think her uni now only has two universities in Spain offering the programme that they have strong links with.
It's still very much up in the air but staying positive. The affect on her degree will be terrible if she can't go.
Hoping for the best and planning for the worst. Just got over the shock of Turing instead of erasmus!

I mean a flight back from Spain is only two hours and less than 50 return most of the time. She could just pop back for the second jab.

Welikebeingcosy · 25/03/2021 15:30

But also by that time there will be less first vaccines to be had so there probably won't be as long a wait for second vaccines as now.
