Do I really have to keep logging my lateral flow tests?

In my house, 4 of us need to do twice weekly lateral flow tests. Then we report them on the government website by filling in a load of details about where we live and our ethnicity and dates of birth and blah de blah, and then email addresses and phone numbers so that they can instantly email and text us with the results we just gave them. I can't be bothered with it. Can I stop reporting in negative results? Will anyone know? I don't think they go to our employers or schools or anything. I'd obviously report a positive.

Thanks to the (multiple Wink ) people that told me to set up an account. Yes I’ve already done that so my reporting takes slightly less time but you still have to input details for children, they don’t work with your account. And it’s not waiting the 30 mins that takes the time it is the faff of each test and then each report. The FINAL screen is whether the test was negative or positive. They’ve also helpfully started asking for my children’s occupations even though I click the school pupil link.

Given I can show up and get tests without giving my name I don’t think not reporting would stop me getting more tests.

The tests are not compulsory for most, so taking the tests and not reporting them is not compulsory either. If it's part of your job requirements that's different obviously.

The data is used in the statistics, but nobody really cares about the number of tests carried out any more.

So if it's a pain and you get no benefit, then don't do it.

The only consequence may be that you stop getting new tests to use, but I think that unlikely as that would require the government's left hand to know what the right hand was doing.

If your child has an email address or mobile number, just set up an account for them using that. Then you can save all their details, and it’s much quicker. You just need to click ‘reporting for myself’ but then log in as them (or get older DC to do it themselves, my 12yo does her own reporting).

I'm not reporting ours. I'm happy to play my part in minimising the spread, by collecting LFT's, testing DC twice a week as requested, explaining to them (again) that whilst they don't like doing them, it's not optional, (even though it actually is).

I'm not prepared to then faff about reporting negative results. Of course if we had a positive I'd absolutely report and follow procedure.

I am already so fed up of logging 4 tests twice a week! I Have an account, but it doesn’t knock much time off. I tried to set an account up for ds last night but I kept getting an error message. I wondered if it was because the system knows he is a child and children can’t have accounts? (Does anyone know if that’s the case?). Would be so much easier if each child could log their own.

Ladderclimber · 24/03/2021 14:26

Genuinely think I’m going to stop logging them. Half the people I know aren’t doing them so at least we are doing the right thing.

2 school children, one of them is doing LFTs occasionally but I don't think he's reporting it anywhere. I couldn't face it either.

megletthesecond · 24/03/2021 14:53

I'm logging them in the evening. 6 a week between us.

That's just 30 mins less pissing about on here or Twitter. Worth it to help the stats.

drspouse · 24/03/2021 15:26

It's important to report the tests so that the stats show
Number of PCR tests taken and why - Number of those that are positive
Number of LFT taken and why - Number of those that are positive

The positivity rate is one of the figures used to determine how well prevention measures are working.

I tried to enter dd’s on the NHS app and it wouldn’t accept the numberHmm

@Bakeachocolatecake2day
You can create an account here. test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/report-result/login-choice

My kids submit their own results so they've created their own accounts too, I don't do it for them.

AnxiousAlpaca · 24/03/2021 18:43

I test twice a week. I’ve stopped reporting them because I CBA and after leaving it for half an hour I just forgot. Obviously if it was positive I’d report

Ladderclimber · 24/03/2021 21:55

I know you can create an account. My kids are not old enough or sensible enough to do theirs so I have to do it and it’s a faff. I can’t see the point. I don’t care about helping their data.

We report to the school using the form on the school website. I had no idea we were supposed to report the results elsewhere. Is it via gov.uk accounts?
