When do you think social distancing measures will stop?

I work in a very small office which I share with my assistant in normal times.

We can’t work together on site right now so we’re on rotation which is fine but I don’t like it.

Do you think we’ll be able to share our office again anytime soon?

Obviously implicit in this is that being safe is paramount and I wouldn’t want to do anything that jeopardised her or my health.

I just miss her and work being like it was.

I mentioned it to my manager and he laughed and said ‘no time soon!’

Never. They are extending all the legislation until September. Vote will no doubt pass tomorrow. The basis for this is some vague idea about variants, for which there is no evidence. And we will be banned from leaving the country. I really don't care what the justification is, it will always sound good. That's a totalitarian state.

@Ohnomoreno what do you mean all legislation? As in, shops etc staying closed?

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 23/03/2021 23:50

I'm not in the UK but it already has here, as long as you're wearing a mask. Offices slowly going back in and schools opening 5 days a week (we've been hyrbid since September) with a 3ft gap between kids. Restaurants getting back up to full capacity and shops not really adhering to any rules anymore, except at very busy weekends.

That said, a lot of companies are working out if they even need that many people in the office in the first place.

XenoBitch · 24/03/2021 00:03

I don't know.. but I hope they stop soon. So many people think social distancing is just having to stay 2m apart from others when you are shopping.
It is not... it is limited numbers at funerals, and not being able to comfort the other people there. It is being given bad news and not having a nurse put a comforting hand on your shoulder. It is taking a beloved pet to be PTS on your own and not getting a hug when your pet's heartbeat stops. It is owning a small pub and not being able to open because SD rules mean you will never have enough people in to make it worth opening.

HSHorror · 24/03/2021 00:11

Tom england schools = lucky if they are 30cm apart
And
No masks in primary

Which will obviously affect our rates and opening back up

I'm not social distancing forever, no chance in hell, I refuse

Gothichouse40 · 24/03/2021 00:50

I guess it will depend on the Epidemiologists, but from what I see nobody does it anyway.

Good. We are social animals, we shouldn't be treating each other like lepers

When do you think social distancing measures will stop?

About 11 months ago in my local Asda.

Stop scaremongering.

Megan2018 · 24/03/2021 00:59

We are working on 1m+ for the next academic year (Sept 21) for staff office space and teaching areas (I work in HE). So we don’t expect it to stop this year.
But we do expect it to be better than now (using lifts again and removing some 1way systems etc), if vaccinations work and no new variants that evade the vaccines.
I don’t imagine having a full office where my team sit ever again though as we will probably be part time WFH forever.

ilovesooty · 24/03/2021 01:11

Why is it "scaremongering " to state that the legislation of the Coronavirus Act is due to be extended in Parliament this week? That's a fact.

kittensarecute · 24/03/2021 01:19

We can't keep social distancing much longer!! Why is that so hard for people to understand ??

kittensarecute · 24/03/2021 02:14

I need social distancing gone, my mental health is really suffering, I'm struggling so much, I need to see and hug people

XenoBitch · 24/03/2021 02:17

Same Flowers It is so hard :(
Megan2018 · 24/03/2021 02:22

@kittensarecute I think hugging people you know will be back relatively soon.
But social distancing in shops, offices etc will be here longer. It won’t all be gone at once as I think capacities will be limited to minimise outbreaks. I don’t think people will mind that once they can see family and friends.
I’m in no rush to get in a crowded lift but I would like to see my (vaccinated) parents.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 24/03/2021 03:34

If all restrictions on numbers gathering are due to end on the 21st June (im aware this is a big IF) then social distancing will also end then, I mean how can you social distance with an unlimited amount of people able to be together at any one time?
If night clubs and sports crowds and concerts are allowed, as normal, it's impossible to social distance in those circumstances

QuidditchQueen · 24/03/2021 03:52

I am a teacher do mercifully back in school now and sharing a work room with two others - luckily none of us is paranoid and we do not socially distance.

I met a friend at the weekend whose wife died suddenly in January tragically young. Of course I hugged him!!!!

So sad for the young that we have been complicit in this dystopian nonsense.

Ohnomoreno · 24/03/2021 07:34

I'm not scaremongering, im fucking raging and absolutely fail to understand why everyone else isn't. We were told we stop this shit once the vulnerable are vaccinated. They now are. Look up Boris's meeting with the 1922 committee (mostly crazy hard-line Tory backbenchers, but bizarrely now our only chance of freedom). He is very equivocal and says, as to be fair he did in Feb,that the dates are not targets but earliest possible dates. Given the legislation will last until September it seems like the govt do not believe they will lift all restrictions by June as originally stated. But yes I suppose it's possible they're just making sure the police retain their outrageous powers for another six months in case they're needed
