Drive through test centre - id for kids?

I have to take ds to a drive through test centre for the first time, and in the notes it says to bring a passport or driving license as ID for anyone taking the test. Does that apply to kids too? Can’t find that info on the booking confirmation.

He’s 11, and weirdly does not own a driving license. I know, really lax of me! Smile and he does have a passport but it’s years out of date.

If you’ve taken your dc to a drive through test site, did you need to show any id for them?

Also please send thoughts and prayers to me apparently having to squeeze through the tiny gap between my front seats in my tiny car to test him in the back seat. (Why??) My bum will most definitely get stuck...

I took my son's passport but they didn't ask to see it.

Thanks. I’ve dug out his passport from when he was 3, just in case. Luckily he still looks mostly the same Grin

Fil had to take mil for a test when she developed a cough. She has dementia, her driving licence was taken off her and she doesn’t have a passport.

No one asked.

I've been for tests 3 times and never been asked for ID.

I wonder if as long as your car is registered to the same house they assume all is in order.

Been for a lot of tests, never once been asked for ID for us or the kids. I took their red books in case every time.

DieSchottin93 · 23/03/2021 22:47

I went to a drive through mobile test centre, they never asked for ID, just the confirmation of my appointment.

Bunnybigears · 23/03/2021 22:48

Never been asked for ID when going for a test, either adult or child.

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 23/03/2021 23:00

Thanks, this is all very reassuring! Great idea to take his red book too!

Been for three drive through tests for dd and never asked for ID. I think you could use yours though if needed as his legal guardian...

Also, why not get your ds to climb through to the front seat for the test rather than trying to climb back? You’ll be parked up and won’t be hurried.

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 24/03/2021 07:53

Him climbing into the front seat would be much more sensible! The “official guidance” is quite bonkers.

People would probably complain if it was officially suggested that children clamber into the front seat.

Lockdownbear · 24/03/2021 09:43

The logic is a young child probably can't undo their seat belts to climb into the front. And the driver is unlikely to be able to reach the buckle without climbing into the back.

But for an older child yes it makes more sense for them to clamber around.

One of the times I took my youngest, i told the staff I'd need to get out, they just parked me away from the other cars.

treeeeemendous · 24/03/2021 09:57

If he's 11 why can he just not sit in the front seat the whole time? I think this advice is for younger kids.

Lockdownbear · 24/03/2021 10:01

11, put him in the front.

The climb in the back is definitely targeted at parents of young children in car seats, who won't be able to undo or redo seat straps without help.

HolmeH · 24/03/2021 10:32

I was allowed out my car the last time I went to test my 3 year old. They parked me well away from other cars & said I could get out to swab. Thankgod to be honest as last time I had to climb in the back of my fiesta & there isn’t much room 🙈

no one ever asks. I offered to show it the first time and he looked at me as if I was a bit strange.

They are only intrested in the qr codes.
