I need a hand hold

Just booked a PCR test for tomorrow for my DD13. She says she feels 'achy all over' and has a sore throat and very mild, occasional cough. The achiness concerns me as I don't think she's ever complained of that before. No fever. No change of taste.

I tried a lateral flow test but it was very hard to read as it went a blurry pink colour all over. The control line was definitely there and strong and there was possibly a very faint test line, but I'm unsure. Hence the PCR test.

I just had my first dose of vaccine last Friday, so am not protected yet but in a vulnerable group due to high BMI. I also have psoriasis. Someone please tell me this will be okay as I'm panicking.

Thinking of you OP x holding your hand x

Fingers crossed for you all.
Ive also had vax Saturday and dc1 has a runny nose.

Rainbowsandstorms · 23/03/2021 23:36

Keeping everything crossed for you. In the meantime try and keep the house well ventilated by keeping windows open and could you wear a mask too. As hard as it is remember that even in at risk groups most people are fine Flowers

Just back from the test. I'm trying to reassure myself that even if it is positive, my two DDs will almost certainly sail through it with minor symptoms and there's no guarantee I'll even catch it, let alone have significant symptoms. I'm rarely ill so my immune system must be reasonably robust. Also I'm 38 which is hopefully on my side!

I reacted very mildly to the vaccine, don't know if that's indicative of how I'd react to the virus.

Does anyone know whether, if I do catch the virus, it will make the vaccine less effective? That has been worrying me too.

My dd1 has covid. We are nearly out of isolation. Nobody else in the house has caught it.

Of all the people I know who have had most of them where the only person in the house to have it.

bathsh3ba · 24/03/2021 10:52

Thanks @kimlo that's reassuring. She does snuggle with me a lot despite being 13 which might make me more likely to get it. My 11yo snuggles with me less!

Anyway I don't even know if she has it yet. One step at a time!

I think the scientists should focus on answering the question as to why we have always ended up having to isolate on days when I have no food in the house!

Lateral flow tests are not good when already symptomatic so don't panic about that. Remember there are still plenty of other illnesses that it could be, and even if it is the majority of people are ok. Just keep your hygiene up and try not to panic. Hopefully he test won't take too long and it will be a negative!

Also as far as I'm aware having it shouldn't affect the vaccine. If anything it will make your future protection stronger.

kimlo · 24/03/2021 11:56

you should have the results by this time tomorrow. Hopefully they'll be negative and this stress will be over.

bathsh3ba · 25/03/2021 07:52

Negative result Grin and she is feeling better.

Only 4 more days of term and by the time they go back after Easter I'll have some protection from my first jab.

Thanks for the hand holds!
