Just wondering if anyone works on one or has a child in one what it is like in nurseries right now? I have seen a job advertised and unsure.

It said about drop offs and pickups being outside, also about masks not being worn in the building.

Our DD has gone to nursery throughout as I'm a key worker. All the children have to have their temperature taken and wash their hands at a portable outside sink on the way in, and parents have to wear masks.

DS hasn't had a single case at his nursery. But we have been in a low case area throughout. No, staff and kids don't wear masks but no parents have been inside the building since they reopened in June.

Work in one..we wear masks inside when moving through the building and going into the kitchen..when going to collect children..not during time in rooms though.
Parents wait outside the building and handovers take place outside etc.

Parents advised to wear masks on drop off but don't have to.

We are keyworkers but our nursery did close fully for first lockdown, it's been open since and about half of the children have at least one parent working at the local hospital due to its location, there hasn't been a single case. The staff are wearing visors but babies and toddlers climb on each other, lick everything etc there's no social distancing although they've gotten rid of all soft furnishings, changed the carpet for wood and have employed a day time cleaner who goes in and cleans while the children are out in the garden in a different room for a meal etc. All staff are having twice weekly LFT. They've done very well.

KingdomScrolls · 22/03/2021 17:39

We drop off at the door and wear masks to do so

zzzebra · 22/03/2021 17:42

We wear masks for pick up and drop off, and there is anti-bac gel at the entrance. But that's it really, staff aren't wearing masks and no temperature checks (unless they seem unwell).

My DDs been going throughout and there has been one positive case in that time, and it didn't spread to anyone else.

When people say there hasn’t been a single case,
I think you mean there hasn’t been a kid who’s had a positive test. As most children barely get symptoms, doesn’t mean none have had it.

Ours wash kids hands on arrival, that’s the only thing that is different.

I work in a nursery. There is more handwashing and we dont mix children or staff so freely between room as usual. We disinfect at the end of each session. Parent drop off and pick up from the door and dont come into the setting. Face mask are worn when interacting with parents.

Inside the building we aren't wearing masks and social distancing is impossible with such young children. We haven't had any cases within the nursery - although possibly it ran through the nursery at end of Feb last year as lots children off with high temps then.

Being at work is the most normal place I go. I'm not worried by being there. We now have LFT available which helps us to feel safe with other staff.

No cases of bubbles having to close in my daughters preschool.
Parents drop off and collect outside. Kids have temperatures taken and I assume wash hands frequently.
Staff can wear masks and/or visors if they want to.
Also they're just starting to introduce lateral flow tests for staff who want them.

Nursery closed during first lockdown, reopened in July 2020 and they haven't had a single case touch wood. We wear masks for drop off and pick up, hand sanitiser at all entry points. Parents enter the conservatory/boot room one by one, queuing outside at 2m distance, to do drop off and don't enter the main building at all.

I was worried about the staff themselves and their feelings on reopening, but the nursery is a very small one with a family feel, and the vast majority of the staff were glad to be back up and running again.

I have kids in two different nurseries due to a house move 🙈 both do drop off & pick up outside, parents wear a mask. The staff also wear masks at pick up/drop off/walking round the building at one but not at the other. Neither wear masks around the children during the day & we have no temp checks (unless feeling warm as would be normal procedure).

I was allowed to look round inside one of the nurseries when the children were all outdoors. The other I wasn’t but they happened to have external doors to all the rooms so I could just stick my head in & peer around (wearing a mask).

When my eldest first went back in June, I cried after dropping her off. Her previously full of toys/books/teddies/resources/artwork nursery was stripped bare and only washable toys put out a couple at a time. Only 6 children went back that first two weeks! But by the end of the month, 70% of kids were back in and gradually nursery started looking more like nursery! They still avoid difficult to wash daily things, minimal cushion & minimal soft toys but it’s almost completely back to normal now!

HolmeH · 22/03/2021 21:12

Oh & we got from June-February with no bubble bursting or cases and then bam. My eldests nursery had a huge outbreak. 80% of the staff caught it & loads of kids! Everyone had it very mildly thankfully. Nursery closed for a full two weeks! But I like to think there’s a bit if herd immunity there now 🙈

olderthanyouthink · 22/03/2021 21:15

DDs nursery was fine till January then there's were a bunch of cases all stemming from the same teacher I think or maybe two sources because it was 4/5 weeks of disruption... can't remember.

The adults wear masks after that
