Just wondering what everyone else would do Ds2(8) has been coughing kept him off Friday and hes not really any better, still coughing very flemmy an chesty. I don't drive so can't get to a test sight would you get a home test and keep all 3 children home from school until results? How long do home results take and do I need to post them myself because if I'm isolating am I allowed to walk to the post box. Sorry to sound like an idiot just unsure as what to do as I dont think it's covid.

Yes, get a home test (you should have done that Friday!) You will all have to self isolate until the test result comes back, but you will be allowed to walk to the post box. There will be one pretty near.

TheShudderingDentist · 21/03/2021 10:39

Why did you not book him a test when he began coughing? What makes you think it isn’t covid? That’s ridiculous.

Yes, you need to book him a test and all isolate until the results are back. You are allowed to walk to the post box.

TheSmallAssassin · 21/03/2021 10:40

Or get to a walk in test site, which will be quicker.

TheSmallAssassin · 21/03/2021 10:44

Home testing is fairly quick - been I did my last one it was three days from me ordering to getting the result.

mumma3c · 21/03/2021 10:44

Ok thank you. I didn't book one Friday as he seems well in himself other than the cough so seems unlikely to be covid. Will book a home test today.

there are no post boxes near many homes in my region.
Hope your son turns out to not have C19, OP

I'm struggling to believe we are a year on and people are still not understanding the rules regarding isolating etc.

Your children should have also been kept off from Friday as he has one of the main 3 symptoms, so hear definitely keep them off tomorrow. You need to order a home test, which probably won't be delivered till tomorrow now, so I think you'd get results by Tuesday if you were lucky but more likely Weds maybe even Thurs.

Anyone else in the household also needs to begin isolating now if they haven't already, as well as any support bubbles you may have.

Where have you been for the past 12 months? A cough alone is enough for it to be coronavirus.
covetingthepreciousthings · 21/03/2021 10:47

Ps. If you download the Royal Mail app, it has a map of priority post boxes and shows collection times, if there's none within walking distance I'd ask a friend or relative to collect and post for you.

How can we be in this position? One year in? People deciding not to get COVID tests for a new cough????

New cough = test. It's pretty simple.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 21/03/2021 11:26

Yes order a home test, they usually arrive next day. You're able to walk to the post box but then straight back home, if you go on the Royal Mail website, you can see where your nearest priority post box is

Kitkat151 · 21/03/2021 11:36

FFS it’s been the same guidance for 12 months now.....’got a cough, get a test’

DumplingsAndStew · 21/03/2021 12:38

Bloody hell, a new cough is one of the most obvious testing symptoms for Covid. Are you new to the world OP?

NoGoodPunsLeft · 21/03/2021 12:49

It you order LFT they arrive within 2 days & you'll get the results straightaway

www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Or go to a walk in centre as suggested upthread

OP needs a PCR test NOT a LFT as her child is displaying symptoms.

OH is working away but has had contact with our son does he need to return home or is he ok to stay there as he hasn't actually tested positive. Sorry I sound so silly asking all these obvious questions I doubt myself a lot so like to know it's the right thing to do.

Covid doesn't always make people, especially younger ones including children, feel ill.

Any new cough should be tested. That's been the case since March last year,

A member of your household has symptoms therefore you should all isolate until a negative result comes back. If your dh was home and in contact with your son for 2 days prior (so Wednesday) to the new symptom (cough) then he should be isolating too.
