PCR Testing on Babies?

My 1 year old is due to get a PCR test today and I'm just wondering how the test is done for babies?

All the information I can find online refers to children, telling them to say "ahh" etc so you can do the throat swab. But obviously a 1 year old can't really understand that.

Has anyone else had their younger child/baby tested and can give me the benefit of their experience please?

I think you can just do the nostrils in babies

Is it not just a nose swab for lo's?

When my 3 year old had a test it was just the nose swab, not throat. I had to try to stick it up her nose a certain depth and turn it around 6 times. That didn’t happen, she kept pulling it out, but it still managed to get enough of a sample for the test to come back with a result.

We only had to do the nose swabs for our twins.

Dd is 14 months and been tested twice. Both times were just the nose. We found it better going to a site because they seem to have smaller swabs available whereas the postal size were just '1 size fits all'. Take 2 adults if you can or a buggy to strap them in, as you need two hands to hold them and then 2 hands to do the test in my experience
