Proof of eligibility for vaccine

Just wondering if all, or some, vaccination centres ask for proof of your eligibility to have the vaccine if you don't fit actually the criteria. I've heard of a few people being able to book their vaccine appointments by clicking on the health and social care link on the government booking website but wouldn't actually qualify under this. Just curious really as it's obviously better the more people who are vaccinated but seems a bit unfair that there are other people who are arguably more in need of having their vaccine early.

Vaccine centres can see who clicked the health and care worker option and will generally ask for proof. The website tells you what will be accepted as proof. People are turned away because vaccine centres are told off if they vaccinate outside of cohort

Racoonworld · 20/03/2021 18:41

They will ask for proof if someone books under health and social care worker.

Neversleepingever · 20/03/2021 18:41

My friend is an u paid carer and said she was asked for proof. She dosn't have any so they checked her musical record (it was at her GP) and it said on her file that shes a carer and so they were able to vaccinate her and that if she hadn't have updated them, they would have sent her home!

Beagle2306 · 20/03/2021 18:44

I had it last week as an unpaid carer and wasn't asked for proof. I don't claim carers allowance but did submit the carers form on my GP's website as I was unable to get through on the phone. I assume my records were marked down as a carer or I would of been asked for evidence but obviously can't be sure and they may operate on good faith. I took medical documentation just in case.

Windyone · 20/03/2021 18:45

In Scotland we can register online as unpaid carers. How can we possibly prove that it’s true? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve got no proof but I care for my elderly DF.

Some people are booking the work link and getting a jab that way. They are supposed to ask for letter for employer or pay slip to show this. Not unreasonable if you are booking because you work in this sector.

BBC did a news report on as smaller chemist were feeling the pressure of turning away people who had booked this week and weren’t keen to be gate keepers.

sm2012 · 20/03/2021 18:55

I guess the majority of people wouldn't book their vaccine using the link if they weren't eligible but will always be those that will and chance it if checking eligibility isn't certain or as a pp pointed impossible

I like the idea of a musical record, did she have to sing some special vaccination songs Grin

Oops, quote didn't work that was to @Neversleepingever

Again, people who don’t work in the centres giving the benefit of their knowledge... not sure we’ve been ‘told off’ for anything yet.
We don’t ask for proof, a few have brought their ID cards, and some have come in uniform (assume from work), however who am I to turn someone away if they haven’t brought proof? We’re not the vaccine police. The NHS system lets them book and I hope that everyone who does is honest. It can be a fraught environment as it is with people making mistakes in the booking procedure online and turning up without a booking, turning them away, never mind challenging someone. We’re not instructed to check anything.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 20/03/2021 19:17

We had ours done at a hub, not GP. A man was turned away and I think the person mentioned 'shop workers' so presumably he had tried to book when he wasn't entitled. It was all quite amicable and he left.

Neversleepingever · 20/03/2021 19:20

Blush medical record*

But it would've been much more interesting if she had to sing 'One Shot' from JLS or belted out the Dolly Parton vaccine song to prove she was entitled to the jab!!

2020isnotbehaving · 20/03/2021 19:22

There will be those who abuse it same as everything there should be some sort basic work ID or payslip or literally millions could do it.

starfish4 · 20/03/2021 19:26

My vaccine came under health and social care, a different online system. I had to provide proof of my NHS number and identification in terms of a work badge or payslip.

Exactly! If people aren' checked, or very unlikely to be checked, there's nothing to stop anyone booking - especially now there's going to be a slow down

I do work on the immunisation programme. I'm really surprised that you're not checking in your region. Across the midlands we have been advised to and have been 'told off' for vaccinating outside of cohort except to prevent vaccine wastage. Our teams have certainly turned away people with inadequate evidence.
PatsyJStone · 20/03/2021 20:24

GoldenBlue - not been told to check anyone. Clearly we can see on the booking it says carer/social care/whatever, but I don’t know about you, we get some challenging people coming through, along with no booking bookings, arsey if they’ve had a delay, can my wife come she’s sat in the car, we’ve travelled 45 miles. Not to mention those that don’t turn up! We’ve had a bit of abuse if we ask someone to come back at their time instead of an hour or more early, and abuse when they’ve made a mistake and not confirmed their booking and have to turn them away. So all in all I am not looking for another challenge. Furthermore, if we do turn more away then we have more vaccine left that we then need to desperately start to call people in to use up before the end of the evening, and the vaccination staff have to stay on even longer while we wait for people to arrive. So we can’t win... except if you look at it that everyone who gets their jab is one person nearer to making the country a bit safer?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/03/2021 20:27

I work in ASC. When I had my jab I had to take my work id badge and an email from my employer. It was all checked.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 20/03/2021 20:30

I'm going tomorrow- I kept trying until it said I was eligible and let me book (I'm category 6). I got the text inviting me days later. I can show the text which had better be enough.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 20/03/2021 20:34

I’ve been today. I’ve had mine under a ‘health condition’ but wasn’t asked what is was or for proof? They did do a search for me and asked for my nhs number so maybe it would pop up in there?
